This is an absolutely a fantastic hotel, very old Shanghai style. Thanks for the hospitality by Zoe, Tom, Tony, Hattie and Figo, I appreciate your food and outstanding service. Every time when I get back to Shanghai, peace hotel is my first and only choice. Love you guys and have a great holiday :)!

If you are interested in the history of Shanghai in the 20s and 30s then this small musem in the Fairmont Peace Hotel is a must see. The man in charge of the museum started at the hotel as a bell hop many years ago and can tell many interesting stories in his excellent English. The Fairmont took 3 years to renovate the wonderful old hotel, and it reopened a few years ago in all its art deco glory. The Director of Heritage at the hotel, Jenny, will also take you for a tour of the hotel and show you the old ballroom where the Shanghai elite used to party until dawn. She will tell you some fascinating stories of the previous owner, Sir Victor Sassoon, and what Shanghai was like in the days before the war. You can combine this tour with a wonderful afternoon tea in the stylish ground floor lobby lounge for a total of 325RMB. If you want the tour you must book, tel 6321 6888.

The Peace Hotel is wonderful. We didn't stay there but had lunch which was excellent but not cheap. The rest rooms (for which you need an access pass) are truly wondrous.

The beloved hotel has a deep history. So sad the historical walking visit of photos have been replaced by movie star photos which are less significant than the depth of history it should preserve.
Brought business clients there who had a far lesser joy because movie history is nothing to the deep history it had.
Wanted to have high tea but the price of 345 Yuan per person with nothing more than a disinterested pianist playing is another poor display of exploitation.
The cafe had a far better joy to enjoy with street views and a more reasonable menu.
Oh Fairmont what have you done???!!

Don't eat at victors cafe. It is a lovely place but the food is beyond bad. We complained to the manager and he agreed that the food was terrible.

Whenever I go to The Bund I stop here. It just has maintained that yesteryear feel that is getting harder and harder to find in Shanghai. I don't care for the Jazz Band that plays every night (overpirced and unremarkable) but the lounge just outside the room is wonderful to sit in and have a drink while resting from the walk along The Bund. There is a great little dessert bar with reasonably priced desserts--with a glass of wine!-- and right across the hall one of my favoirte little shops where you can pick up both inexpensive and highend gifts. On the main floor right in the enter is a fabulous area that contains murals of The Bund in its heyday. They are made of some type of metal, possibly copper bu they have been treated so I'm not sure without seeing a patina. These a huge, as in they take up entire walls. Cool off from the heat or warm up from the cold. It's a stop worth making.

One of the historic hotels of Asia. It was completely renewed but the old style and elegance were kept alive. The bar still looks like the movie Casablanca. Perfect service and perfect location. If you like something with feeling rather than just modern and sterile this is the right place.
