Martin was my guide to visit the highlights of Shanghai.
Precise, attentive and very polite he introduced me to this amazing and modern city. I really enjoyed the tour. I am really grateful and satisfied to the work done. Maybe the only things next time should I take more time to visit the whole city.

My husband, mother and I just returned from an 18 day China trip that was arranged and managed entirely by China Odyssey Tours. What an incredible job China Odyssey Tours did!
Our itinerary included 6 domestic flights, visits to 5 different regions, hotel bookings everywhere we went, and a bunch of extras to accommodate our needs at some unusual destinations (e.g., attending the Sisters' Meal Festival in a remote Miao village in Guizhou Province). China Odyssey Tours arranged all the logistics, and we could not have asked for a smoother trip.
Our initial trip planner Sophie was endlessly patient as we kept refining our itinerary via email exchanges. Once we arrived, our local guides at each stop were knowledgeable, articulate and fun to be with. Our local drivers were dependable, friendly and careful in traffic. Everyone went out of their way to be helpful to my Mom who is 93 (Yes, 93!). For example, they lined up wheelchairs, first floor rooms where necessary, and even a "sedan taxi" (chair slung on bamboo poles carried by porters) to transport her from the endpoint of the cable car on up quite a distance (with a bunch of steps) to our hotel on Yellow Mountain. We had an assigned customer service rep, Maggie, who stayed in contact with us throughout our trip. She did a phenomenal job - willingly (in fact, at her own suggestion) - to re-book some of our flights and hotels when my Mom got a bad cold, allowing us to rest in place an extra day in Xi'An.
In short, if you want help organizing a trip to China and want to be in good hands while you are there, go with China Odyssey Tours! They will do a superb job with the logistics and support you beautifully, start to finish.
If you are considering a trip to China, we strongly recommend you choose China Odyssey Tours to make your arrangements and support you while you are there.

We really enjoyed our private tour of Xi'an. Our guide, Eric was very informative and passionate about the sites and history. We were picked up on time and felt that we were in good hands. he walked with us as we went to each site for the warriors. he answered all questions & even helped me carry my heavy camera bag. i had two cameras.
the driver was very safe considering how they drive there. he told us all he could about Xi'an and china in general. it was a pleasure to have a driver & guide for just me & my wife. no tour bus
or large amount of people to deal with. if we ever went back to china that would be the way to go.

We’ve just returned from our 12-days fantastic trip to China, organised by Karen, a travel consultant in COT. We were in contact with her since April, 2012 and she did a great job. The trip met our expectations. The places we visited: Beijing, Chengdu, Juizhaigou and Huanglong National Parks, Guilin, Yangshuo, and Shanghai. Our guides: Peter (Beijing), Linda (Chengdu), Penny (Juizhaigou and Huanglong), Bruce (Guilin and Yangshuo), and Jack (Shanghai) were good too. We made a special relationship with Bruce who was very friendly and helpful. We also visited the COT office and had a chance to meet Karen and other employees. Everything was organised perfectly, the guides were on time, helped us to check in the hotels and for our domestic flights. The drivers were very experienced and responsible, which was very important because of the chaotic traffic in China (especially in Beijing). The local people we met there were very friendly and we were asked many times to take pictures with them. Acrobatic show we watched in Shanghai is must see attraction. The performers are terrific. We recommend COT to other travelers and would take them again if we make another journey to China.

Juizhaigou and Huanglong National Parks in your itinerary is one of the best in China, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. The best time visiting Jiuzhaigou is from July to Oct. Acrobatic show in Shanghai, and Kongfu show in Beijing, Liusanjie impression in Guilin ETC were all amazing! We're happy to introduce them to more friends who plan to visit China too.

China Odyssey is more than a guide, it is like being with a friend. We bought our travel packages and it has been wonderful, highly reliable, always friendly and attentive to our needs, willing to resolve our doubts. Great courtesy in dealing and concern for making us feel happy.Our experience in China has been successful we will never forget that great country thanks to China Odyssey Tour and Johnny Li. We would like to visit China with China Odyssey in another time .

The Odysseys's tour of China and Tibet was our first trip with the company and it was the start of a great series of trips with this company. I think we'll be on our tenth trip with them later this year. What we enjoy are the small group size, excellent guides who stay with you the entire tour, the wide variety of experiences provided, the handling of all the annoying details, e.g. tipping local guides, baggage handling, hotel transfers, etc. and the excellent follow-up with a detailed evaluation waiting for you when you returned home. Sure, some guides have been better that others but as a group they always were great and some always better than others. Mike in China, Tarek in Egypt and Chris in Africa are right there at the top. One short story to show Odysseys's attention to detail. On a flight from Kathmandu to Delhi on the way home one of our bags missed the plane. Of course it held some of our souvenir purchases including a tanka painting and a small rug. Odysseys's local rep who greeted us at the Delhi airport was as hopeful as he could be when the Air India people were less than assuring about our loss. The Odysseys rep gave us his contact info in Delhi and after filing a claim, we returned to the states without our one bag. We spent the next few weeks contacting Air India reps in Delhi and the states and the Odysseys rep in Delhi trying to flow-up on our claim. We received nothing but false promises form Air India but the Odysseys rep kept our hopes up. I finally wrote Bruce Epstein, Odysseys president about our efforts to get our bag. By the way, we had been told early on that the bag was in Delhi but that was all we knew. Now it is nearly two months since we had returned from the India and Nepal trip and we were notified by Odysseys that they would send a representative to the airport with cash in hand to resolve the situation. Within a couple of weeks we came home one night and found the missing bag sitting on our front porch courtesy of Odysseys and FedEx. Everything was in the bag, though obviously it had been opened and searched. Now you know why we travel with Odysseys Unlimited....

The 3 weeks of China travels started in Shanghai & immediately set a very high standard for the rest of our stay - we closely followed the personalised itinerary - created together with the ever patient Alex at China Odyssey Tours - & events unfailingly met this detailed plan in each & every city along the way. Portia was the first guide to warmly greet us & in no time had us "flying" into the city at 300 kph. A journey she advised which once took hours now achieved in minutes via the Maglev high speed magnetic train. Effortless check-in at the Royal Meridien, a quick drink & then off to cruise the Huang Pu River & take in the beautiful night lights along the Bund. Astounding days were to follow all too quickly taking in the Shanghai Museum, Tianhou Silk Factory ( great buying!), tour of the French Concession including where Mao first met to form the Chinese Communist Party, the Yuyuan Gardens (circa 1559). The Grand Canal, Lingering Garden & Tongli Water Town boat cruise all continued to inspire. Our final view of the city was from the top of the JIn Mao Building - a mere 420m above the pavement - So our first days in China were very welcoming & impressive beyond expectation. Many thanks to Portia - her efforts on our behalf were extremely generous & much appreciated by the our gang of four! Off now to Yichang & the 620 km Yangtze Cruise to Chongqing .........!

My mother and I started our miraculous journey into China by first going to Shanghai. We wanted to do something unique and, not really knowing much about China, thought we would do something unique and save Beijing for last.
China Odyssey Tours made our trip through all of China a breeze. Never once did we have to worry about transportation, communication or safety. Our travel agent, Laura, called our guides at every stop in our journey to make sure everything was going smoothly. It made us feel safe and that everything was taken care of. We have never had such an easy experience traveling abroad.
As for the city itself, it was a marvel to behold. Skyscrapers that touched the sky and reaching as far as the eye could see. The amount of people that occupy the city itself is staggering. Driving through the city and looking at all the high rises made my mind reel just trying to calculate the sheer number of people. And yet, we never felt crowded. The city is immaculately planned and groomed. Despite the knowledge of poor air quality, the trees and foliage looked healthy and green. The Bund was an interesting piece of architectural beauty and going to the City Planning museum really helped to put it all in perspective. The gardens were beautiful and the food was delicious! We were just taken aback at how wonderful everything was.
Our guide, Shawn, and the driver, Mr. Ling, were extraordinarily accommodating. Both were kind and friendly and extremely pleasant to be around. Upon our arrival, Shawn had purchased us local snacks to try out. It was a pleasant surprise and made us feel welcome. He was easy to understand and his taste in restaurants was impeccable. We were provided with bottles of water every day and never had to worry about thirst. Our every need was catered to.
The hotel wasn't anything fancy. But for the price we pay, it was still very nice. The beds are a little hard but that is something you will come to expect and accept about China. For us, it was never a problem. We had so much fun and excitement during the day that, once we got back, we were able to fall asleep no problem. The breakfast in the mornings were to die for. Some of the best food we had on the trip was served in the mornings. And the service at the hotels was always efficient and friendly. We never felt like strangers or foreigners. Everyone was so friendly.
If you plan on going to China, you MUST go through China Odyssey. They are simply perfection.

China Odyssey gave us the tour of a lifetime. We have traveled extensively for many years, and we would put this experience at the top of our list. Leading up to the trip, we felt more apprehension than prior to any previous trip. We fully believe that the trip package from China Odyssey--the guides, drivers, hotels, and thorough pre-trip planning--made all the difference. In Shanghai, our guide Michael and driver Jack were the best we have ever had--prompt, thorough, in a word "perfect"--and they did become our friends. As we went on to Xian with our guide Mei and driver Mr, Wong, and then to Beijing with our guide Linda and driver Mr. Chin, we were again impressed with all they did to make sure we had a great time. Our trip planner, Vincent, could not have done more to provide for every detail of our journey. He even called in Shanghai, and we were able to speak with him. We are recommending China Odyssey to all our friends who are looking for a wonderful travel experience. It is the best! Kathy & Bob

We just returned from our 12 days, awesome, awesome tour that was organized by Maggie (Ms. Maggie Yang) of COT. We just could not have done without her patience (10 plus changes in the itinerary before we finalized the final one!) and able guidance. The final one comprised of Beijing, Yichang, Xian, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Mt. Huangshan. It was well guided by the guides selected by COT, comfortable and very enjoyable! The accommodations were four star hotels and they were very comfortable. We were totally 17 people in the party and of course with that many people, there is bound to be some problem, issues~ for eg. one person in the group got sick, COT handled that very well by slightly modifying (after discussing with us of course) our that part of the itinerary, and also arranging the local doctor for the needy!! All in all a great experience! my personal favs, are Beijing, Xian and Shanghai!! My God!! what a beautiful city Shanghai has been developed into! Kudos to the planners and organizers of that city's planning board. A must see city in one's life time!! When we were growing up, we were told if given a chance in life one must see Rome~ I will enthusiastically add to that Shanghai as well! Keep up the Good work~ COT and Maggie! Thanks for everything!
