Can Give It A Miss

Unless you are interested in animation, you will find this place boring. There isn't much to see and the exhibits are not that interactive as one would expect in a museum like this. It is also quite out-of-the-way. No crowd at all - very empty.

How to get there:
Take Metro Line 2 to JinKe Lu Station. From there, take exit 1 or 3 , then take a cab. The ride costs RMB14.

Entrance fee:
RMB30

Good if you're interested in Asian animation

Really cool place that is awfully empty and broken down. Great insight into the history of comics and cartoons in China but most of it is in Chinese.

Has some really nice showcases. I would only recommend this if you are really interested in comics and animation. It's a bit far from the city but not a far walk from the closest subway and is a nice look into Shanghai's suburbia.

It costs 30rmb.

Good visit with the family

Shanghai Museum of Animation is a small museum. Ground floor is divided in three parts which give an overview about the history of animated movies. There are good explanations in english. Lots of short movies give you a good impression about the development through the decades. The big superhero figures impressed our kids. The exhibition in this part is well set up. We spent around 90 min here and we would not mind going back on a rainy day.
Upstairs was quite abandoned. There is a kids activity area which was empty, but with friendly staff waiting for you to show up and get started.
Unfortunately the movie theater on the third floor was closed.

I would recommend this museum for any fans of animated movies and families.

Not very impressive...just Ok
Not very impressed may be because not much interested in animation and all. My 6 year old son enjoyed as he got the chance to take pics with his favourite characters.

Save your money and visit the Shanghai Film Museum

In the sticks of Pudong, near nothing of interest, you would think the Museum would do more to attract - 100rmb price tag doesn't help.

While a few of the exhibits were well put together, most were thrown together with little thought and quite random in their displays.

If you have children - there is some interactive stations - it would be worth the visit. If you are a fan of cartoons/animation, buy yourself a box of crayons and start from scratch - you'll have more enjoyable results.
