We had a very relaxing 2km stroll along the river front to this bridge then crossed the river to a very nice restaurant on the main road.

Suzhou was a nice area in Shanghai to visit. We took a 1/2 hour boat ride along the canal in a "gondola like" boat and during the ride the "gondoleer" sang a lovely little
Chinese song for us. At the end of the ride we went ashore and shopped with the locals and their families in the walkway of shops on a lovely Sunday afternoon. If you have the time and have a few hours to spare take advantage of this opportunity. It is very relaxing and a lot of fun.

We didn't get a chance to go on the tour, but we walked along the river. On other parts of our trip we went on water tours. I highly suggest taking at least one water tour while there. It gives a different view of the city then what you would get from just walking.

This river, which is a branch from the Huangpu River, is a quiet backwater that passed close to our hotel. We had a very enjoyable walk along its bank, enjoying the peace and quiet.

Nice tour. I did not care for the music being performed during the boat ride... It was a long 20-minute ballad that I,of course, didn't understand. But the view was great.

This gives you a taste of what you expect to see in China. Some history, take a boat down the Grand Canal and enjoy and walk the streets of the small town.

Most reviewers have focused on the boat rides which are possible on the Suzhou River (sometimes known as Suzhou Creek). But it is just as feasible to go for a promenade along the banks of the river, as there is usually some kind of footpath, walkway or at least road following its course. The most interesting phase is down near the Bund end, where tehre are many fine concession-port-era buildings to enjoy, but we have walked a fw kilometres upriver and there is always soemthing to see. Amidst the modern apartment blocks are some century-old godowns, factories, flour mills and other early industrial structures, some of them with an attractively old world look. You can also see the willows, cherry blossom and other favorite Chinese shrubs, all added in an attempt to beautify the inner city.

Excellent private customized day tour with Portia. Thorough conversation on China's history and culture from past and present day during our comfortable one hour ride from Shanghai. We were able to choose Master of the Nets Garden and enjoyed eating with chopsticks while Portia introduced us to Chinese specialty foods such as noodles and dumplings .
Overall a memorable experience which we will not forget!

Did not realize how lovely it is to have a stroll by the Suzhou Creek until accidentally ended by its river bank. Cherry blossoms and magnolias in full bloom. Locals chilling out by the banks in all sorts of activities from dancing, chatting, exercising to fishing. Lots of heritage buildings nearby and don't be afraid to explore the alleys to get a boost on history.
