Mediocre at Best
Feb 2019 • Family
Pros: Cost Free (spent 10 Yuan for optional play area). Several exhibits plus a kids reading area.

Cons: Needs an update or refresh. There was not a lot that kept my 2-1/2 year old entertained. Not even close to any of the Children's Museums in the US.

Fun place for kids
Oct 2018 • Couples
Dead easy to find from exit 2 not 1 which is on the other side of the road. Turn right out of songyuan road station line 10 then right again past the soon ching Lin mausoleum ( well worth a visit).

Easy Free Fun Option for Kids
Jul 2018 • Family
If you’re looking for a place to let your kids run around and be entertained for an hour or two for free - indoors - this is a great spot. Everything is in Mandarin which is to be expected but the interactive elements are fun regardless of language. Plus it’s air conditioned and free!

To get there take a right out of exit 1 at Songyaun station and take another right onto Songyuan road. It’s about a block up on your right.

There is a movie component but assume it’s also in Mandarin and arrived after it started.

Traveling with an eight year old boy.

Worth for rainy day
Dec 2017 • Family
Its a children museum, if you are with young children, please visit. Not so educational, 2 area is open under the sea and space. It tooks 10mins and 10mins to finish the area, another 1hour i just stay at "cities and me", which is small indoor play area. This cost y10. Entrance main is free. Not in time to watch the theater and movie. Total spend time less 2hours. Location is just at the back of Songyuan Station. Take line 10.

Worth to visit at a rainy day
Oct 2017 • Family
Good for rainy days, it takes 1,5 hours to explore it, it was not crowded. A nice ship area, space area, and there is a nice play area (10 rmb/kid) upstairs, many different little corners, reading, drum set, mirrors, kitchen area, magnetic bricks, a stage, dont expect big areas, good for 0-7 years old kids.

Newly Renovated Museum Good for a Few Hours of Playtime for the Kids
Mar 2017 • Family
After nearly a year and a half of renovation the Shanghai Children's Museum has re-opened finally re-opened. It sounds like it is similar to the previous layout but updated. There are about 4 learning areas - two on the first floor (on the sea and under the sea) and two upstairs (space and "cities"). There is also a cinema on the first floor playing a Chinese kids movie. There was less play and interactive area than I had expected. The museum was free but "cities" area is the play area which costs 10 RMB (about US$1.50), unfortunately it can be "sold out" as we were told when I first inquired. Luckily the front desk clerk, who spoke some English, went to check if space had opened and it had. The third floor is currently closed and I wonder if they are planning to open another area. I hope so because though it was nice for about 2 hours it just was not on par with other children's museums we have visited around the world.

Don't bother
Nov 2015
I was looking after a few young children and thought this would be a good rainy day activity. Don't bother. Seriously needs updating and maybe...cleaning? I am surprised that busloads of children still come to visit this place. It is very rundown.

small but ok place for kids
Jul 2013 • Family
the exhibitions are not impressive at all. Some are boring. The indoor playhouse for kids (with tree house at 2nd level) was fun for kids. The movie was good.

Hard to Believe it Passes for a Museum
Apr 2014 • Family
I usually feel as though if my children are enjoying something, then it is worth the time. However, I am not even sure if they had fun here. Yes, admission is free, so what am I complaining about, but it was not worth the trip out to this museum. It is safe to say we learned nothing here today!

Bit worn down but my son had fun
Aug 2013 • Family
This museumis quite nice. I was surprised that we did not had to pay any entrance fee at all,... just for the movie. We did not see the movie as my sin is only four years old. There is not so much to see in the museum and a lt of things are broken or quite dirty. But my son had a great time. Downstairs there is play submarine and upstairs the playground - he simply loved playing there. So not a bad thing to do if you have a small kid and 2 spare hours.
