Disappointing
Nov 2019
As someone who enjoys clothing markets like JJ Market in Bangkok, or Dongdaemun and Kwangjang Markets in Seoul, I was VERY disappointed by Qipu. First, there is a lack of variety. Most clothes is geared towards teens and young adults (which suits me) but it seemed every shop had the same or extremely similar stretchy jeans, polyester sweaters, denim jackets, fur trimmed coats. Also, I found many hawkers not even willing to bargain with me. If I countered with a price, they simply took the item out of my hand and turned away. The higher the floors I went, the fewer and fewer shops I saw. Quality didn't seem any different from the lower floors. I walked out Qipu with one sweater, which I paid 180 RMB. I felt I did not get a good deal, but it was still a better price than similar items back home and perhaps about the same quality. There is the Korea Fashion Market across the street. It is much cleaner and newer compared to Qipu, and the clothes has more variety (but overly edgy and still geared mainly towards young women.) The beauty treatment parlor booths next to the tattoo booths was an interesting part of the Korea Fashion Market, and there are better restaurants as well. Still, hawkers refused to bargain with me, no haggling even for a bunch of socks. Unless you know Chinese, I would skip this place. I got better deal for some trousers (39 RMB) at a fixed price clothing stall in one of the train stations, which despite being one stall had more style variety than all the stalls of Qipu combined.

The area
Address
Neighborhood: Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have quiet cafes and independent boutiques.

Overwhelming & Interesting
Oct 2020
Interesting. Had no idea what to expect with our visit, but our day went well. There are bargains to be had, just look but be prepared to walk away as well. Fitting rooms are non existent so be prepared to buy off rack or try on over clothes. Overwhelming in the sheer volume of product. The entire area was busy with people coming & going. Would agree with a previous review, clothing lines tend to be younger; however, it depends on what building and what floor you are in and on. The pedestrian walk way was nice to have no scooters or bikes allowed. Expect to go back again sometime. No complaints. No issues. Easily reached via Metro. Great place for people watching. Food eateries located in immediate area.

Amazing Qipu road
Sep 2019 • Family
We went to the new side of the market. It was contrary to what we expected.clean and well lit, it was as if several boutiques on one floor. Prices are low and negotiable on ground floor. Next floor is kids wear, men's wear etc. We did not shop much but prices were not great for kids clothing. Men's t shirts were good price n quality. 3rd floor was fancier clothes, non negotiable prices..

In the older building, prices seemed better but it was overstuffed with hardly place to move.

But overall a great place to shop.

Bring your money
May 2019 • Friends
I have waited for awhile to review this place because I was not sure about quality. I need to remind all to be careful and NEVER pay what they are asking. Fun place if there is something you want and I needed new shoes.. I’m an UA girl so I went looking. Found a place and started in. They asked 100.00. I laughed and countered with 10.00. He laughed... ok now back and forth. I got up to leave and there favorite saying is to get you to give a price.. keep it low low. I said 20.00 and he came down to 30.00... I said 25.00 and he could have my old shoes too. He came back with 25.00 if I take my old shoes with me! A deal was made... These are very good shoes and I have wore them everyday since. Also the beer here is good

Good for jeans, T-shirt’s and cheap jewellery
May 2019 • Solo
How to get there: by metro, get off at metro stop Tiantongroad number line 10 Lila one and the market entrance starts basically when you get off from the metro

For whom: anyone who wears European size between 34-38, it gets harder to find anything above it but you could also check on bags, shoes or jewellery
You can go there alone or with friends, family. I was there on Monday afternoon, solo female and it was almost empty ( especially upper 2,3 rd floor)

What look for: new trendy 90s style jeans, Chinese / Japanese teenage fashion, there is very little stuff for 50-60 something people rather lot of good and so so quality stuff for teenagers or someone who likes feminine or plain design. T-shirt’s are if 2 different quality levels just check by touching. Shoes are rather so so quality better at Science and Tech. Market

What to beware of: you may spend more as planned bring an extra suitcase or help to carry your stuff😉is it dangerous? Jesus people if you are used to western style shopping malls just forget about this place and shop at East Nanjing road or other western style mall. Shanghai has it covered for you and don’t loose your time here. You won’t find here fancy schmancy boutiques, it’s China and it’s cheap. You don’t need Chinese skills to bargain just type the price you are willing to pay on sellers calculator. If it’s too low they won’t sell it and won’t follow you, if it’s a right one they will shout and make a deal with you! Nobody speaks English there but that’s the part of fun under this rooftop! It’s all about how comfortable you feel being the only western person in the shop. Of course you will stand out but it’s China, you are abroad, let yourself free and move out from your comfort zone.

Toilettes: take some baby wipes with you, no western sitting WC only squatting- it’s very healthy and hygienic. Just get used to it! Don’t forget to smile and ignore hawkers who will be trying to sell you fake Gucci or Rolex bag. Just walk away they will give up after a while. Happy shopping!!!

Hawkers, bad quality
Apr 2019 • Couples
There is really no reason to go here unless you want to get harassed by hawkers and risk buying overpriced clothing that likely wont even last until you are home. There are better places to shop in Shanghai.

Cheap stuff but beware!
Apr 2019 • Solo
Generally most things are cheaper than areas and quality is no good too. But for the price, some things got to compromise.
Its ok to say no or don't want if approach by some random sales staff and don't look back. You can find the same item in different stores but their price can be abit different. When you asked for the price of the item, always repeat it again to the sales staff before payment. I wanted to buy a pair of shoes for my sister and went to a store at level 1. I asked the sales staff how much for the pair of shoe. She said its RMB79. I asked for a discount but the staff said its the lowest and asked me to go other store to compare. I was quite tired by then and so agreed to buy without checking other stores. I gave her a RMB100 note and she return me RMB11. I asked her wasn't the shoe RMB79? She said no, its RMB89. I didn't argue with her because its hers against my words. And i had already gave her the RMB100 notes which i don't think she will return me. I can only suck it up and leave. So be careful when shopping there. Always always asked for the price again before handing over your money.
Stores at guangzhou and korea underground shopping mall are better places to shop.

Good buy
Oct 2018
For clothing hunters, this is a MUST GO place when your are in Shanghai. Good value buy but lots of walking and browsing. Just a train stop from Nanking east pedestrian mall or you can walk there if the weather is cool.

Bargain hard!
Mar 2019
A few larger sizes on the upper floors of this maze of shops. I bargained very hard and did buy a few things but most weren't interested in even trying to sell to a middle aged plus sized woman on her own! Be aware that although clean, only squats with low dividers giving you full view of everyone squatting and using their mobile phones. Not an image that I can ever erase!! Make sure you go to the toilet before leaving your hotel and always carry tissues!
