Once you are at the top, there are beautiful views and it is a nice place for photos, and surprisingly very friendly staff.

An interesting scientific building
Feb 2017 • Solo
The building is in good condition and the devices are also good; the museum has everything explained with three languages (Chinese, English and French) and you can perceive the original mood

Small but historically significant observatory
Aug 2016
If you are already in Sheshan and climbing Sheshan hill (Shanghai's highest point) then you might as well stop in at this museum. If you like small museums, history or astronomy or taking a break after climbing up the hill in the hot or the cold, then this is the spot to stop. Although signage and English is limited I still enjoyed 30 minutes here. I particularly liked the old viewing chair and some of the old photos of the builders and early astronomers who used this observatory.

Up the hills, to view the world.
May 2016 • Solo
Located on the hillside of the Sheshan mountain (hill?), this is an attraction that can be combined easily with visiting the Sheshan Basilica (on the hilltop) and Sheshan Forest Park (in which the observatory/astrological museum is located).

This is an ideal outing if you are staying in or visiting Songjiang (Southwest Shanghai). Else, it can be reached by taxi from the Sheshan Metro station on line 9.

The views from the hillside esplanade where the entrance to the observatory is located is also marvelous.

Called Shanghai Astronomical Museum nowadays
Jul 2015 • Solo
This is nowadays called Shanghai Astronomical Museum and provides interesting exhibition for the history of astronomical study in China. The old telescope is also nice & views from the observatory roof are very nice. Next door there is Catholic church too.

Part of the museum has signage also in English+French. Entrance 12RMB.

Weekend trip - perfect!
But you do not need to spend too much time on the small hill with the cathedral. The standard of the cable car is low, the nearby restaurants terrible - but it is a nice stop on the way to other destinations in this area.
