The area
Address
Neighborhood: Century Park
Shanghai residents see Pudong’s suburbs as the place that grown-ups retreat to when they’re ready to settle down and stop living in the cramped confines of a refurbished lanehouse. The areas around Century Park are some of the most desirable as they are in close proximity to the Metro Lines, granting easy access to the heart of Puxi. The park itself is a huge draw, it’s one of Shanghai’s biggest and there are sports fields tucked into one of its corners, but five-star hotels, museums and great malls make life in the Century Park area easy for the homesick foreigner. And if living in a Western bubble in China isn’t your thing, there is plenty of local flavor to be had in between the major development. Some of Lujiazui’s futurism can also be seen in buildings and sculptures throughout the neighborhood as well.

Relaxing Evening
Dec 2020
Engaging location for live musical performances. The structure both externally and internally interesting to view. The musical hall was comfortable, maybe a little outdated, but adequate. The curvaceous lines of the exterior were carried well within the interior design even into the the concert hall. The staff did not speak English, but were helpful and polite. The program was only in Chinese, but we translated via an APP. The seats were sufficient. Restrooms decent. Easily accessible location by Metro Line 2 or by car. The location is beautiful but does not lend itself to an after concert drink or dinner, one must travel some. We purchased tickets on-line and they were delivered promptly, as promised. Our evening was very enjoyable.

Fun experience
Aug 2019
Went with my friend on a Fridat night! Not sure if it's because of the show, but the venue itself is small. Still fun to see though!

Sumptuous Performance Venue for World Class Acts
Oct 2017 • Friends
Joined the musical shows of my Shanghai Theater academy's musical theater colleagues, whose talent matches the venue quite beautifully! This is one of the most stunning buildings in all of Shanghai. Visited prior to September 2017 (please Trip Advisor team: allow the "date visited" section wider time frames)

Beautiful theatre
Apr 2017
This is a beautiful theatre that from what I can tell brings in lots of big name touring shows. However I saw a production of Chinese Kun Opera and I thought it was fantastic. Thankfully there were English subtitles. A great experience!

Great new arts centre
Jan 2017 • Solo
Close to the science and technology subway station this is a new centre which features international and local artists performing in shanghai. The building was ultra modern and the concert hall beautiful. I saw the Russian state ballet perform sleeping beauty. The building is 3 spherical domes and you can see it from the science subway station. It is about a 5 minute walk.

Anne-Sophie Mutter in Shanghai
Oct 2016 • Friends
OAC opened in 2004 - a great venue. Under the same roof, there's the opera house. (Its different from Shanghai Concert Hall.) The decor is warm and simple with great acoustic, it’s a pleasure to enjoy Mutter‘s performance. It's easy to get to and parking is plenty.

World Class Performance Venue
Nov 2015 • Business
This is a great performing arts center, with several different halls. I have seen several performances here of several international artists. The Shanghai Symphony Hall has incredible acoustics and comfortable seating for 1200. All seats have excellent views. Modern design with great public spaces and easy to get her by walking or public transportation.

Top Notch Concert Hall
Apr 2015 • Friends
One of the top Performing concert Hall in China or in the world. We were just get mesmerizing by this beautiful butterfly orchid shape building. It is so cool that there are 5 different concert halls in this building; Concert, Entrance, Performance, Opera and Exhibition Halls which make this building stands up for their shape. At night time it is truly beautiful. The acoustic is just so good for performers. Being attended for concerts in China National Library Concert Hall, Jinan Lishan Theatre, Xuzhou Concert Hall, and Lantian Grand Theater, the unrespectful Chinese audiences here are more quiet and no talking. This is good for the performers and other audiences.

Art center... Performing Art center haha
May 2014 • Friends
I have visited this venue on many occasions and have never thought to search it here to leave any feedback.

First, It's called the Oriental Art Center but -- i have only seen western performers, performing western things here.. Maybe I should look and see what Oriental performances are offered.

I first started buying the highest price seats because I like being close and having a good view.. but having been to several performances... there isn't really a bad seat in any of the theaters I have been in. The seating is quite cramped though I am 5'8" and my knees were in the back of the seat in front of me. My friend who is 6' had to turn and twist so his legs could fit. This was in the mid range price of seating.

There are discounts to be earned on merchandice and tickets if you buy enough tickets each performance season...
And if you are from the USA.. on many occasions there are visiting orchestras from many different cities visiting. I was lucky enough to find my High School Band teacher here now conducting one of those visiting ochestras.. Amazing as it was a complete random chance that I see the arrival of the orchestra and buy a ticket the same day as the show.

Check their website for more information about shows.. tickets can easily be purchased at the venue or online at mypiao.com or damai.cn

Also, I read the other reviews about the place and about rude Chinese talking during the performances. This is one of the few venues where I have never run into the chatty Chinese. The visitors to this location have always been respectful and stay off their phones during the performances.

Great couple of hours at SHOAC
Sep 2013
My first visit to this venue I like to visit concert halls around the world on my travels to see a local show and I can highly recommend. We purchased our 80 RMB $16 Australian dollar tickets these were the most expensive but I don't think you would get a bad seat anywhere you selected. We purchased our tickets mid week when we visited the Shanghai Science and Technology museum a short walk away. A great show called Saturday brunch jazz concert in the concert hall it started at 10am so we were up and out on the underground early you can catch the train to the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum station on the green line cost us 3RMB. Entry to the concert hall is 40 min before the show & they had an extensive programme for the upcoming months cost depending on the show.
