Not bad artificial beach
Oct 2020 • Family
I thought it was gonna be crap based on the reviews, but it's actually a nice day trip, especially if you have young kids. The trucked in sand is clean and the water is OK if only for wading. Food choices not great but that's probably because they want to keep the place clean. The locals are not big.on.sunbathing and prefer to pitch a tent and chill out. All in all not bad for 20rmb and a 40min train ride from Shamghai South.

miles away and not worth the effort
Jun 2015 • Couples
As a non Chinese person I did not feel welcome here (laowai this, laowai that etc) and it does not feel like 'foreigners' are allowed! The very fake beach was awful and the water was dirty. It is really far away from Shanghai city center and I would never go back again. Think it was 50RMB to get in. Food very limited to dodgy Chinese fast food i.e. BBQ Chicken giblets on a skewer.

Not a Beach
Staying at the GoldenTulip on Beach, traditional Chinese hotel where every room is smoking. The beach is not a place you can swim and infact I would not swim there.....not good.

Not a place for the tourist

Shanghai Beach resort access from downtown improved.
Access to Jinshan and the beach area is now vastly improved with the opening of Metro line 22. Over 35 trains a day from Shanghai South Station to Jinshan by hi-speed bullet train.
A 30 minute journey for 10 rmb. Please check schedule as alternate trains stop at stations en route and take 60 minutes to reach destination.
Entrance to the beach area is now free of charge.

Do not expect to swim
May 2011
This overcrowded (as typical in China) "beach" takes over 2,5 hours to get from Shanghai centre. Imported sand, artificial cleaned water and no swim rule will probably dissatisfy you. But to see Chinese to step into water full dressed will entertain you in other hand.
