Delicious and fun experience
Oct 2021 • Couples
It was an amazing experience and exactly what I imagined! We were so happy to have joined this cooking class. The food was delicious and Cici is such a great and friendly person which makes the whole class even better. We even had some veggie options which was perfect. I would recommend everyone to join this class and learn how to make xiaolongbao!

Best experience to attend when you are in Shanghai
Dec 2019
Was amazing seating and attending the Xiao Long Bao course. CICI will teach you not only how to make your own dumpling, she will expand the class in a cultural side of the dumplings. You will hear about the history of the xiao long bao. history of chopsticks and many other things you will love.

When you go to make soup dumplings CICI will explain the secret of the soup and the proportions to create a perfect XLB, also she has other courses where you can learn about color dumpling and other shapes.

I highly recommend both courses .

Thank you again for the experience and I will be back soon to eat xlb again

Cici is a perfect host 👍
Dec 2019
Cici is a wonderful host. Making XLB and pan fried buns was fun and engaging. Eating our own freshly steamed XLB and fried buns was absolutely delicious. I guarantee you that they are better than the ones you have in restaurants. Cici even prepared some local appetisers and rice wine for us to wash down the XLB and fried buns. Highly recommend to those who love XLB and Pan Fried Buns !

Must Attend Class if you visit Shanghai :)
Oct 2019
Thank you so much Cici for a great learning experience making 小笼包and水煎包。Pandora and myself enjoyed the session so much that i have not stop sharing this awesome session with my friends in China and Singapore. Personally, I love to cook and can cook well but making and wrapping 小笼包has been a challenge, i tried following youtube but failed. But i managed to learn it from you, all thanks to your patience and great teaching ability. You are sharp and quick to point out what i was not doing correctly and tada i got it right! First few are horrible looking but with your encouragement and advices, tada.. mine dumplings were looking amazing. Achieving 75% of the look of the dumpling from DinTaiFung. Not just abt your teaching abilities, the recipe is great too. I love the taste of the dumplings, its not as oily as what i have eaten outside so its a keeper! Thanks also to your friendly personality with interesting sharing about cultures and how chinese wordings are formed. Tell you what, my friends from China are amazed by the culture stories that I know :)! If anyone is coming to Shanghai, I would highly recommend you to attend Cici's class. If i swing by Shanghai again, I will attend her other class! Thanks CiCi and helper!

Great evening with Cici learning how to make soup dumplings, and about the Chinese culture that surrounds them. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting or living in Shanghai loo for an authentic cooking experience.

Absolute bonus. Everything the “excellent” reviews say is true. I had two classes booked and by some fluke ended up being the only xuesheng (student). I am a reasonable cook already so was really pleased that CiCi still had PLENTY to teach me. Her ability to measure a gram-perfect dough ball by eye is amazing. Likewise, her judgement of the correct quantity of filling goes down almost to rice grain increments.
Ive been cooking pot sticker dumplings for several years - badly - one afternoon with CiCi has transformed that. I now know how to roll out the dough correctly and how to get those beautiful pinch pleats right (some practice needed to match the teacher!)
On top of all that CiCi is lovely, patient, generous, interesting.
I went directly to a restaurant to meet friends afterwards, a steamer full of dumplings under my arm. Bizarrely the restaurant were fine with us eating them as a starter. One guest had a serious shell fish allergy and there was oyster sauce in one of the fillings. Which one? I had no idea. CiCi simply sent me a picture of what we’d made with the “safe” ones circled. Problem solved 😃. Cant recommend CiCi highly enough.

Today’s class was great fun and delicious!
Aug 2019 • Family
Cici is a great host, making the whole morning a fun social and learning experience. Her instructions made it easy to find her kitchen in the French Quarter and as well as our family we were joined by two young guys from Malaysia and the US respectively. First thing you do is introduce yourself in your native language and place a dot on her huge wall atlas - she has had hundreds of students from all over the world including some really obscure tiny islands! We got right down to it and within a few minutes we were making the dough for soup dumplings and helping to mix up the fillings. The process is fiddly at first but in the end everyone managed to make pretty passable dumplings. Cici told us the stories behind the famous dumpling and other little tales and also prepared other dishes for us to try as our dumplings steamed and fried. We drank tea, beer and rice wine - it really was a highlight of our time in Shanghai and I can’t recommend it enough. Turns out my youngest kid is quite talented at making xiaolongbao so we’ve put in an order when we return home. Thanks for a great morning. We left stuffed and happy. Tip - afterwards, walk from Cici’s to Tianzifang - a web of narrow streets with tiny artisanal shops and food stalls (we were tempted by the food but were so full that we just had ice cream!).

We have come back for more!
Aug 2019
My husband and I participated in a soup dumpling making class and loved it so much that we booked the colorful dumpling making class for the whole family - 6 people in all. Cici is great - friendly, flexible, encouraging, funny. We wanted out children (all above 20) to have a great experience and we were not disappointed. After having a great time making the dumplings, we spent a relaxing time eating them, along with a couple of vegetable dishes Cici prepared, listening to stories and learning some Chinese. I would not hesitate to go back for a third round!
