I had the opportunity to experience multiple tours with Lost Plate, Chengdu, Xi'an, Shanghai (breakfast and evening). Each and every tour was unique and enjoyable. In the year of 2020, living as an ex-pat in China and visiting different cities, Lost Plate can feel like a local taking you around and giving you plenty of advice along the way. Even in the city you might live in, it is worth the visit to unearth some local finds you may not have known about. The guides all speak English well and are helpful, friendly, and excited to show you their city. Separately, the owners have a lovely small business passion and story behind their business and they continue to offer unique, longer trips that are food and culture focused in China. They have a true passion for showing the amazing food of China.

A wonderful adventure! Thank you Abby for every detail you shared with us that made our tour so personal and exciting. I felt as if I had met up with a long lost friend. The food was excellent and each dish had a story to tell. This is my third trip to this city, but I discovered Shanghai in a way I would have never been able to do on my own. I will be signing up for more in my future travels!

This is my third Lost plate food tour. I have previously done the Xi'an and the Chengdu tours. They are a must do now when i travel. every tour gives me a better understanding of the history and culture tied to the regional cuisine and the restaurants and food carts are always places I never would have found on my own . The guides are friendly and knowledgeable. Highly Highly recommend this experience!

I recently won a tour with Lost Plate and was excited to try it out. Since there aren’t many tours happening now I decided to round up a group of friends and colleagues to go with me. Other than my wife (who is Chinese) the group was all expats who have lived in China for sometime. Even though we all had some experience with Shanghai and Shanghai food we still found the tour very interesting and fun. We made several stops at some “off the beaten path” locations that specialized in different local foods. The food was great, the beer was plentiful, and our guide Abby was very knowledgeable and entertaining. This tour would be great for visitors and guests to Shanghai as it gives you a nice overview of many different types of food and let’s you have a good and interesting evening without how to do the planning. Even for someone who is familiar with Shanghai I would bet you will learn something, try something new, and explore some restaurants and neighborhoods you are not familiar with. The Lost Plate organization was very easy to work with and well organized, and the tour was very well planned. Highly recommended.
