I had the opportunity to experience multiple tours with Lost Plate, Chengdu, Xi'an, Shanghai (breakfast and evening). Each and every tour was unique and enjoyable. In the year of 2020, living as an ex-pat in China and visiting different cities, Lost Plate can feel like a local taking you around and giving you plenty of advice along the way. Even in the city you might live in, it is worth the visit to unearth some local finds you may not have known about. The guides all speak English well and are helpful, friendly, and excited to show you their city.
Separately, the owners have a lovely small business passion and story behind their business and they continue to offer unique, longer trips that are food and culture focused in China. They have a true passion for showing the amazing food of China.

What an amazing experience and a must-do for all foodies coming to Shanghai!! We took the Shanghai Evening Tour and Joy - our lovely guide took us through old & new Shanghai streets giving us tid-bits of interesting information while enroute to the restaurants on our itinerary. She was literally a JOY to have around :) The restaurants we ate in during the tour were amazing!!!! Loved every dish that was thoughtfully selected and the stories behind them. 11/10!!!!! Would've never been able to find such local gems on our own. Thank you Lostplates for an incredible experience!!!!

Lost Plate never disappoints! I made sure to book the Shanghai tours (I did both the breakfast and the dinner tours) after having such a great experience with Lost Plate in Beijing. Hard to cover this much food on your own especially when traveling solo. It's also a great way to connect with a local and other travelers. Wen was our guide and was wonderful! Knowledgeable, fun and engaging. Wen went above and beyond to give us a great tour and even sent me restaurant recommendations for the rest of my stay.

We’ve hit the jackpot having Joy as our guide on our Shanghai food tour on Christmas night. She shares the same passion and enthusiasm for food as our family. We truly appreciated the description and information that she gave on each dish as we enjoyed them. Our top three favorites were the xiaolongbao, wantons with sesame sauce and of course, hong shao rou! We also loved passing by the lane houses along the way. I would recommend this tour for Shanghai visitors and new expats.

So interesting to be in a traditional area of Shanghai. Cora was an amazing and charming host. She was so prepared and informative. Food she picked was delicious. Want to go back for more. Highly recommend this tour!

Cora was an awesome guide and host. Her personality (and our trainee Annie’s) allowed natural conversation among the group as we shared exceptional food and experiences. Such a great way to see and taste Shanghai! I would definitely recommend.

This was an ideal fun activity, where we got to try some tasty and interesting dishes in different local restaurants. Food was excellent and our guide Yiming was superb. He knew not just about the food, but also shared some local history and culture with us. Thank you Yiming for a great evening. We had done the Lost Plate Food Tours in Beijing and Xi'An earlier on our China trip, so going again in Shanghai was an easy decision.

Based on our Xian tour, we just had to try out the Shanghai food tour too. Despite the weather, we had an amazing trip, eating from 'holes in the wall' to family run restaurants, and larger ones. Absolutely fantastic, and great insight into the different cuisines around China. Highly recommend. The other clients were fantastic too.

This was our 3rd city with the lost plate and again a highlight of our trip. This trip of 4 restaurants and a brewery ( like the others) was through the Muslim Quarter. That was so much fun and different from the rest of Shanghai, we went to little family run restaurants that made local specialties. Places that we would never have found on our own. Our guide was great and lots of fun. I would recommend "the Lost Plate Tour " for everyone.

My wife and will be in Shanghai for a few days in Apr/May this year and want to do the breakfast and evening tours. While not wheelchair bound, we take a folding portable transport chair for long distances. She can easily walk a few hundred yards at a time & climb steps on her own usually. Would this work on your tours?

For evening tour, I’m pretty sure it would work. It involves nice level sidewalks, and an elevator rather than stairs. For breakfast tour, as long as she’s not in an actual wheelchair it shouldn’t pose much of a challenge. I’d encourage you to email the company and discuss directly. They are super friendly and would plan ahead to accommodate. Don’t let this hold you back. I went on both tours in December, so can vouch for them!
