About Scarlett Mao Tours
When you visit a new country, you want to enjoy the must-see attractions. However, there are so many so-called "Top 10" or "Must-see" highlights. So, what highlights are really worth visiting and not too commercial? Apart from a few must-see attractions, do you also want to look behind the facades, encounter people, experience history, as well as dive into the smells, tastes and textures of a new country? From my perspective, everyone is different and has their own preference. Furthermore, I think people can't really know what they truly want to visit without more genuine and detailed information. Thus, you need a guide who has similar values about travel, a sense of humor, flexibility and authenticity. This is what I provide for my guests! Please go my website or Youtube channel to learn more about my service. Thank you! Scarlett

We loved the day that we spent with Scarlett. She outlined a perfect tour that blended new & old. She let us proceed at our own pace and experience the city in one full day. What a treat! She answered our questions and helped us understand life in modern China. We highly recommend her service.

I contacted Scarlett to organise two days of sightseeing with my family in Shanghai. We are two adults and three children (13, 11 and 8). We had spent time in Shanghai once before and had seen many of the major attractions, so I was looking for someone who could take us to less prominent sights and suggest beyond experiences beyond the usual. I also wanted someone who could keep the kids interested. I contacted several companies that claimed to offer persnalised tours but Scarlett was the only one who got back to me with a genuine attempt to tailor the experience to our particular needs. Scarlett and I communicated a lot in the weeks before the tour (and she was always super responsive and full of ideas and enthusiasm). The result was a highly personalised and rewarding experience. We had a full day jammed packed with activities - a visit to the park to watch the locals dancing and singing, tea tasting experience, the Propaganda Museum, extensive food tasting, pottery making for the kids (a highlight for them), visits to various markets including the very unusual pet market, and an inside tour of a private resident's historic home. Our three children loved Scarlett, who really connected with them, and rated the experience their favourite of the trip (which also included skiing in Japan, so it was a high bar). My husband and I also enjoyed talking to Scarlett and the insights it gave us into Chinese society, especially for the younger, urban generation. Scarlett is warm, open, very knowledgeable and an excellent communicator. I recommend her services to anyone visiting Shanghai.

Scarlett is is just as much if not more than I expected. Her service is not a generic touristy series of stops. She does her own independent research of the places she took my to that were "off the beaten path" where the locals actually frequent. Since I'm learning Mandarin, it was a great opportunity for me to engage with the locals of Shangai. One example is a top we made to a small area where locals shop at a tea shop. We got to try quite a few premium teas, and Scarlett was very patient in helping me learn the language along the way. If you know a bit about Chinese culture, she can provide relatable perspective from a local's standpoint. It's my first trip to China, and didn't have an agenda for sightseeing at all. She was able to get me going in the right direction for the next few days to make the most of my visit here.

Scarlett is nothing short of delightful. She had a list of ideas for things we could do or see on our two tour days, but was also open to anything we wanted as well. We took the metro, walked, and hailed cabs to get us to our destinations- all with great ease. Her lunch and snack choices were also a complete hit. But, truthfully, that's just the start. If you're looking for a tour guide that's friendly, knowledgable, funny, and wonderful- Scarlett is your girl. She knows her history, fun facts, and hidden gems. If I could give her 1,000 stars, I would. Scarlett, thank you for such a wonderful two days in Shanghai and for teaching us so much about your city. We hope to come back soon to see you!!
