The names of 40 people killed in the battle for civil rights between 1954, when the U.S. Supreme Court outlawed segregation, and 1968, the year of the assassination of Martin Luther King, are embedded forever in this round, flat, granite sculpture. Water flows gently over the surface of the inspiring memorial, designed by Maya Lin, who also created the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Awesome timeline of civil rights history. Loved seeing this and feeling the water run over it. The museum was closed by the time we visited, however, we wanted to see memorial nonetheless.

Really interesting and nice to see. The timeline is a great run through of the civil rights movement. Martin Luthers quote inscribed on the wall is also really lovely.

Take some time to read and reflect on the exhibits inside the attached museum. I saw many folks simply walk through, missing information about the people who are honored by the memorial. The pictures and stories are heart wrenching. Add your name to the rolling list of those pledging to uphold civil rights. Support the memorial by selecting some of... More

Another fine tribute designed by Maya Lin. The top of the circular memorial has a timeline of many important dates from the civil-rights movement. Starting with Brown vs Board of Education and continuing through Rosa Parks' refusal to exit the bus and the Montgomery bus boycott.

Maya Linn's Memorial to the people who died during the Civil Rights Movement is very moving! The exhibits and displays give you a glimpse into the lives of ordinary people who did such extraordinary things! I hope you are able to add your name to the Wall Tolerance!

This place is/was the bomb. It is a stirring and poignant tribute to those who were the victims of the mindless ignorance that characterized the South in the past. It is amazing and extremely educational.

Very good resource for History buffs. The names and dates of importance from the Civil Rights era are etched on the piece. Water streams down the piece with Dr. Martin Luther Kings words in the background. Very moving.

great spot to take photos. It is a waterfall, so that is kind of neat. I love this spot, every time I have been here, I take a photo of everyone's hands on the memorial. It is located out front of the Civil Rights Museum.

This is just another spectacular work by the famed Maya Lin. Breathtaking in the way it makes you stop and think. The lifelong work of Morris Dees rings through with every step. Bless that man!
