Really quick to see. Nice stop to stretch legs. Take a pic of General Lee before he is placed in storage. Super cool staircase. Otherwise, pretty standard capitals as they go.

Visited the state capitol which was very pretty. Be aware that the Senate and House of Representatives are located across the the street, but you can still see the chambers of both, plus look out to where Martin Luther King Jr's March from Selma ended...More

The first point to note is that whilst this is the current State Capitol building, it doesn't house the current House and Senate chambers, as they are in a separate building. Also, as this visit was over a weekend there were no self guided tours,...More

Quick tour self-guided. Certainly not the most striking we have ever been in. They did not have tour guides, all self-guided. They hand you a map to show you where you can go. The areas that you can see are minimal. Allow about an hour....More

We make it a point to visit state capitol buildings whenever possible, but mostly just to view them from outside. Alabama's is average as far as architecture goes but its gleaming white color is what impressed me the most. The surrounding buildings are also pretty striking...More

A wonderful old building full of history - I was a little surprised as I was more focussed on the history of Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights movement but the building is an old classic well worth spending some time. Montgomery is not...More

The Alabama State Capitol is an impressive building that dominates the Montgomery skyline from the riverfront area. There are also a couple of interesting statues and memorials in the gardens surrounding the building. Worth a quick visit.

I find the Alabama State capitol to be one of the most interesting I have ever visited. The beautiful circular staircases are something to see. Lovely large artwork under the dome and stunning room painting. The wall is flat but appears to have a raised...More

Buildings do not come more rich in history than the historic Alabama State Capital in Montgomery. This was, of course, the First Capitol of the Confederacy and its Civil War history is rich, but it is also rich in the history of the Civil Rights...More

Visited on a beautiful clear day and enjoyed the flavour of history as the site of MLK's speech at the end of the Selma-Montgomery march. Viewing the chambers of the old confederate government, provided contrast, and the tour was free and self guided.
