Good place to walk, free to enter. Historic, lots of beautiful headstones, statues, mausoleums. Veteran graves, many prominent people buried here. Open 8 am-5pm daily. Ran & maintained by the City of Mobile, home to over 35,000 graves & markers.

We went to this cemetery because locals told us that one gentleman was supposedly wrongly accused. He told them if after he was executed if a tree grew from his grave he was wrongly accused. A tree grew but some say he had acorns in his pocket.

Have never been so touched by any cemetery such as this, due to the incredible amount of time it must have taken to list so many thousand names of Confederates lost to battle. Also, some of the most elaborately carved statues and crypts I've ever seen. Peak holes allow visitors to see historic family memorbilia left inside the crypts...fascinating look into the past. Well worth the time to visit.

We agree with the just ok reviews. If you go to the office (from the entrance on Virginia St drive straight ahead) you can get a free driving/walking guide with some of the history and more interesting sites. Nothing really monumental but a acceptable hour or so.

Weird to be rating a cemetary, but here goes...

Other than the military graves and Jewish section, it didn't seem to have much there of interest. Few interesting headstones, but not much else. That said, I could be biased by my trips to Cincinnati's Spring Grove Cemetary & Arboretum, which, between the incredible array of beautiful headstones/family crypts and stunning grounds, is one of the best cemetaries in the US. Sorry, but it was kind of meh...

We visited the Magnolia Cemetery in order to pay our respects to the Confederate dead buried in the Confederate Rest portion of the cemetery. The grounds are well cared for and everything is very clean. There is a marker dedicated to the Confederate general, Braxton Bragg, in the Confederate Rest as well as part of a statue that was once perched atop the memorial to Confederate dead nearby (lightning destroyed much of the original piece).

It was a sobering memorial and worth the visit even though the cemetery is off the beaten path.

Take a little time for a walk and even a tour if possible. Normally the largest collection of sculpture in a community is found in a cemetery. Magnolia Cemetery is the place to visit in Mobile. Great stories and characters found here. Mardi Gras founders, the Bellingrath's, stained glass windows, bishops, generals, soldiers, beautiful children and even dogs. All in a quiet peaceful setting

Was a very interesting old cemetery to walk around. Tried to find some of the graves that others mentioned but wasn’t able too. Did find the confederate part and some of the older sites.

Many interesting grave markers to see as you wander through this large cemetery. One suggestion is that you be careful walking on the grassy areas, especially if it recently has rained; they are very soft (also a good reason to take care about where you drive)! There is an area for Confederate dead where six generals are buried, most notably Braxton Bragg. Adjacent to the Magnolia property is an area set aside for US dead, many of whom died in battles around the Mobile Bay area.

Very large cemetery with paved drives through the extensive grounds; the paving has occasional bumprs and potholes needing repair. The mausoleums are impressive. Many of the important citizens of Mobile are buried here.
