The place is a showcase for bee farming but we went there only to get our supply of honey.

They have a good range of products with various price levels so one could pick and choose to suit one’s needs. The staff are polite, friendly and informative although the sales pitch is obvious.

The place is touristy so price-wise you may not get the best deal. Comparatively however, we still get a good run for the money compared to other sellers at shopping centres and on supermarket shelves. At least they bottle them in plastic so you do not pay for honey in the thick glass bottom and glass walls that actually packs less honey than they portray.

We would say that you may not cut the best deal but its a safe buy.

We met with Simon who was sharing alot about the different type of honey and how they are created. Showed us different type of bees as well. He was very informative and spent time answering all of questions. Of course eventually he would recommend various type of honey to consume according to what we need. The choice and options are yours, no obligations. Worth the time we spent there.

A place to visit to find out and get to know more about honey bees. With an information gallery and different types of honey for tasting.
You can also purchase many types of honey on the spot but I would purchase their wild jungle bees honey.

When I think of Melaka, I always associate her to her glorious colonial past and relate her to the numerous historical artifacts, museums and monuments that spread in a concentric circle around the old city center - the Dutch Red House (Stadthuy), the St Paul's Hill, the Malacca Sultanate Palace, the Portuguese A Famosa Fort, the Princess Hang Li Poh's well, etc.

Few know of the `Green Belt' of attractions that lined up along Ayer Keroh as you drive in from the North South Expressway into this suburban area of Melaka. The attractions along this belt include the Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary, the Melaka Zoo, the Melaka Bird Park, the Bee Gallery, the Orang Asli Museum, the Mini-Malaysia and Cultural Park, the Malacca Planetarium Adventure Science Center, the Malacca Crocodile Farm, Melaka Wonderland Theme Park and Melaka Botanical Gardens.

I came to visit my sister in law and her family who resided in Ayer Keroh and happened to pass by this belt of attractions. I dropped by to have a look at the Bee Gallery and found that it was desolated and it seem at that time I was the only visitor in the gallery. Frankly speaking, there was nothing much in the exhibition. Luckily, the admission is free or I would feel pain having to pay for the entry. The gallery is located just opposite the Melaka Zoo and beside the Orang Asli Museum.

This Bee Gallery reminds me of my trip to a bee farm in Chiangmai twenty years ago. The farm owner surprised us when she told us that her bees fed on the nectar of poppy plants that grew wild in abundance at the hillside. She also showed us the exotic honey that was derived from the hard work of these bees.

I was stunned at the thought of it. I wondered if the honey contained traces of opium and whether the honey resulted in drug addiction in the consumers and whether the inducement resulted in higher sales for the farm owner. But the farm owner showed research proof that the bees that fed on poppy plants produce better quality honey and she further elaborated on the many benefits derived from such consumption.

The visit challenged cognitively my general understanding of honey and because it challenged my conventional thinking, it set me thinking. Till to date, the memory of the visit is still very clear in my mind.

Likewise, I think a bee museum or any type of museum should challenge the visitors cognitively and set them thinking, not just display information which are general knowledge that the visitors already know or which they can easily find them through surfing in the internet.

It's a very small gallery nothing to boast about it. It's just next to the Butterfly & Reptile farm. Nevertheless, we tasted the different types of honey "collection", it seems to be really good & genuine. The bee hives & bee collections doesn't attract very much & the place look so quiet. Probably we were too early. Since there is no fee charged, it's wotrh visiting.
