Seafood - fresh ingredients and friendly staff at Stall 1, but poor ordering resulted in fried, dry, gravy-less dinner

We insisted on Stall 1 - Sea Terrace after going thru the reviews in Trip Advisor and inspite of the impassioned pleas of the many competing stalls. We were trying to cater for the 3 kids aged 5-9yo instead of the 4 adults amonst our party. We take responsibility for ordering what we ordered, but perhaps the gentleman taking our... More

Nice and cozy, i was there during dusk and was having seafood. Is a Serani settlement (portugese mixed locals) the place was also referred to as portugese village. Very fresh seafood and the taste was absolutely great!! I was at stall no.8 and i had to admit, though the hawker there are rather agressive, but it was still a great... More

I was at stall no 7 with my family and friends of 16 adults and 6 kids at Portuguese Settlement Melaka for dinner and was totally disappointed with how slow the service was. We were made to wait for more than 1 hour and when I went to checked the first time round, I was told by the lady boss... More

The Portuguese Settlement really should be listed under restaurants rather than attractions, because the reason to visit is for its food. We had fantastic (and very inexpensive) seafood meal at stall 2. Although it's technically street food, there are plenty of tables and table service, and the outdoor atmosphere is great on a nice evening. Well worth the cab ride.

Boys n girls will rush to you as soon as you enter the Square, persuading you to order food from their stall. It's a big area so we sat and ordered food from Stall #2. Very good food. Steamed fish, "Debel" curry aka "devil"curry with chicken and Malaysia' s staple food rice. All dishes are very good. The "Debel"curry was... More

I had big expectations about this place. It was very disappointing. Very decadent and no sign of the Portuguese influence. Even the restaurants are bad. The fish/ seafood didn't look fresh and there were thousands of pushy guys trying to convince you to have a meal in their "restaurants". The hotel Lisbon is now an university dorm. The Portuguese heritage... More

We first visited the Portuguese Settlement in Melaka during the day. Didn't look too much at first glance, but we were fortunate to get an advance look inside a new Museum being developed which, when open, will provide an interesting look at the history and, particularly the culture of the local Portuguese, and how they are working not to lose... Its a settlement for Portuguese descent people in Melaka, by the Straits of Melaka. The only place you can spend time, is at the sea front square. Its adjacent to a big food stall square where you may be swarmed by peddlers. We chose restaurants away from this ultra-noisy area, like San Pedro, Lisbon Restaurant which is just a stones... More

This is the second time that we have dined at Portuguese Settlement. The first time we had our seafood dinner at stall #1, this time round we decided to give stall #2 - Joan & El Chico's, a try. We ordered some veggies, butter garlic scallops (delicious, had wished they were bigger!), asam sotong (tastes of tangerine and is sweet)... More

We ate at #3 last week because we didn't know which ones are nicer and the staff kept persuading us. It was fine and the price was okay. But this time we got some advice from words of mouth and decided to go to#5. It was the most delicious Portuguese baked fish and butter garlic crab i have ever tasted.... More
