Today I met Kim Eng at this wonderful place. One of the many things I discovered was the reason of Nasi Lemak served on the 12th day of the Baba Nyonya Weddings. It's more than just a feast...it's a symbolic recognition of the bride into her wedded family.

Strait-born Chinese man married local Malay girl(s). Producing unique culture/heritage/history/language/food and off-springs call Baba(boy) & Nyonya(girl). Gifted, talented, explorers, adventurers, creative thinkers that became successful during the times of conquering super powers. Worth every penny for history lesson. RM15 during the weekday early. Unplanned visit and Zero crowd. Excellent presentation by guide.

Kim Eng was a very good speaker and knowledgable tour guide. We were amazed from her clear speaking and a lot of confidence telling us about Baba Nyonya culture. I am so glad to see the museum was kept so well, clean and informative. For a 150 years of stuffs were kept so well and it is awesome!

I visited this place after going to the Baba Nyonya museum on the same street, and I felt like there were certain overlapping elements, so if I only had time for one I would go to the Baba Nyonya museum which covers more aspects of daily living.

The Straits Chinese Jewelry museum has its charms too, the tour is also conducted by a knowledgeable guide, and you should visit if you enjoy looking at fancy shiny jewelry.

Another advantage is you actually have the freedom to take photos (unlike at the Baba Nyonya museum).

Although pitched as a jewellery museum, this is only part of the treasures inside as the house which is complete with many original furnishings and family detail from the mid-20th century. The young guide we had was exceptional, very knowledgeable about the house, artifacts and decor which was imparted in a pleasant and approachable manner. She was also happy to say when she didn’t know something, which was refreshing. Other highlights were the fact you could take pictures and we were allowed to linger long after the tour to take in the atmosphere. There is a somewhat similar museum in the same street, but this one is much better being less pretentious and more approachable. Definitely worth a visit!

A well laid out museum showcasing a nostalgic era in peranakan times. Exquisite display of jewellery and furniture, especially closets and wardrobes. Happy cheerful guide Kim Eng nicely rounds up the visit.

This museum is delightful! We walked past it many times and finally decided to go in despite its underwhelming exterior.

It was so much more informative and relaxed than the Baba Nyonya Museum further up the street!

A guide is included in the admission price and they run tours for even just two of you. The guide was lovely and very well informed. They do not restrict you taking photos and the jewellery is only one aspect, most of the tour is about culture and history, presented in an unpretentious and relaxed style.

This museum is slightly located behind the main Jonker street, slight off the beaten path but was the best sight-see I had with my friends during our recent visit there.

As we were students so the ticket price was just RM10 and we discovered that it's much more than just a jewellery museum!
The museum size is just nice for a tour of 30 + minutes but we lasted an hour inside as we were warmly welcome by their guide Wendy and she told us a lot of baba nyonya stories of the antique collection there.
The museum was generous enough for us take many pictures and even allowed us to 'experience' the baba nyonya lifestyle by letting us posing sitting on the dining table!

I definitely recommend this museum for tourists who wanted to learn about the baba nyonya heritage.

Eva was an excellent tour guide, she really knew the finer details of the contents of this museum. We found it utterly fascinating and being left to soak it all in rather than rushed through a particular series of displays was much appreciated.
