- ManOnRoute33New Delhi, India114 contributionsProbably the most famous beach in Goa. it lies in North Goa, around an hour taxi drive from the Airport (Both the airports). It is indeed crowded always, the beach and the approach road but vibrant at the same time. You can find people even past mid-night enjoying at the beach with restaurant (shacks) all lighted up white their tables and chairs lined up to the shore line serving food. Sports activIties are plentiful during the daytime from boat rides to para sailing and more.Visited November 2024Traveled with familyWritten November 6, 2024
- Kerry HKewarra Beach, Australia373 contributionsWe enjoyed Calangute Beach, swimming, body surfing was great - just need to keep an eye on the tides as the waves can turn into little “dumpers’. The beach itself is pretty clean and lifeguards are very attentive for non-swimmers. Set well back from the shoreline are a range of beach restaurants and sun lounges - if you are into sunbaking - go hard!! The beach does and will become crowded during certain times of year. This is expected - the local fisherman set and pull their beach nets around sunset always a good spectacle - especially if a wave is running. Sunset is wonderful the beach is pretty sparse on dark and the beaches restaurants continue to provide a good selection of drinks and culinary delights!!Visited February 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten February 22, 2025
- ReviewRhapsodyGurugram (Gurgaon), India29 contributionsThis beach is quite crowded, but it boasts a stunning sunset view and a wide range of shacks and eateries. If you're seeking tranquility, this might not be the ideal spot for you. Overall, it's a good choice, easily accessible, and, most importantly, clean.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 5, 2024
- Игорь Б2 contributionsThis is our first trip abroad, so there's not much to compare with, except Evpatoria. But we really like it here, the sand is fine, clean, it even crunches nicely underfoot sometimes. True, when you walk off the beach, sand in your slippers rubs your feet. It's probably the only downside of all the sandy beaches. Yeah, there's a big wave coming in, but you sail out over the Surf and it's fine. Every step of the way, Shecky, you take the sunbed, you're given Wi-Fi, you lie down, you want water, or beer. You can eat here, have coffee. They don't cook fast, but they're delicious and inexpensive. By the way, everyone said be careful with the food. Anyway, eating shavarma right outside made, though spicy very, nothing. Drinking reed juice in the bazaar squashed in front of me, trying all sorts of fruits, and so far, I think it's okay. The vacation isn't over, maybe I'll add something. Live wild, in the private sector, shower, air conditioning Internet, all good. Not an apartment, but not bad. Yes, only tickets and tours are expensive. I'm going to see if I can add one on Monday.Visited February 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten February 14, 2025
- Gopal ChaturvediAjmer, India205 contributionsVery popular beach among several beaches of Goa. Easily accessible from every corner of Goa. So many shops are located near beach where you can purchase local items and Cashew. Beach is strching very long and very good for water activities and sea bath. Local food, tea ,coffee restaurants are available on swa shore. Inspite of very happening place ,I didn't like it much. Reason ,Due to over hyped it's a noisy ,crowdy type spot. May be visited once it you are really keen for it and have time or staying nearby location. Otherwise Morjim Cavalossim Palolem and some other south Goa beaches are more beautiful, quite and serene than this crowded spot.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 31, 2025
- Traveveller00849Gandhidham, India70 contributionsCalangute beach is one of longest beach that I felt among all the beaches in goa, if you in goa to have a lot of fun and activity. There are various water sport activities like water skiing. Quite a few restaurants are there on the beach selling various delicacies and liquor. - Honest traveller 2024Australia3 contributionsLives upto the hype Is crowded because its close to main markets which for me is a great bonus. You can enjoy beach and get good food close by. Halal food options are also available closeby for those seeking it. 2 paid toilets closeby which are 2 star cleanliness way, but atleast something. Its beautiful. Water is a bit dangerous and it had no swimming sign up when i visited.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 24, 2024

Had visited Calangute beach on a December afternoon. By the time I reached there around 3:30 PM, it was quite crowded. If one wishes, one can go for various water sport activities like water skiing. Quite a few restaurants are there on the beach selling various delicacies and liquor. Beach chairs are available for rent.

This is NOT a beach to go to relax or sunbathe - I am not sure who uploaded these beautiful pictures of the beach but this is NOT the same beach that we witnessed recently.
If anyone has been to Puri beach in Orissa, this beach is a carbon copy of it. It is a very busy, dirty, and loud beach. The beach goers are primarily Indian men and fully clothed women taking their children into the surf. It is not a place where one would feel comfortable in a bathing suit or any kind of beach wear.
Again - I wanted to write this review to warn beach goers who might think this is a lovely beach to relax at - if you want that, head to South Goa and the beaches there. This beach is not the place to go.

I had a terrible experience at Calangute Beach, and as a woman, I felt extremely unsafe. The place was crowded with unruly people, and the atmosphere was far from welcoming.
My friend and I were traveling alone, and instead of enjoying our time, we were subjected to harassment. Men at the beach were acting sleazy and even engaged in eve-teasing, making disgusting comments and gestures. It was a deeply unsettling experience, and we constantly felt on edge. This beach is absolutely not a women-friendly destination, especially for those traveling without male companions.
The only redeeming factor was the food at the shacks, which was quite good. However, the overall experience was so unpleasant that I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially women travelers.

The area was very crowded with rowdy crowds and felt dirty and disorganized. It’s not ideal for families. I recommend exploring the beaches in South Goa, which are cleaner and less crowded. The best places to visit in Goa can be found in the southern region.

Looks neat
Lot of sports activities.
Suggestions to people wanted to do water rides: If you have money don't bargain much with those who are providing the water rides. By looking at the way they work whole day and eating food bought in polythene covers under harsh sun with no roof on top just to earn few bucks, I was really felt bad for those who can earn money only during the season.
Beach is very nice and famous. There is 2 wheeler car parking at the entrance to keep vehicle safe. Paid 20/- for almost whole day.

Calangute Beach was overcrowded but seeing the sunset was an absolutely amazing experience. There are lots of shacks on the beach but these are slightly expensive. They are the ones who have provided good seating arrangements for you to enjoy the view.

One of the best beach to visit in Goa. Lot of fun and activities. Good shopping area selling souvenirs, beach wears, sleepers and restaurants available just near to beach. Negotiate prices before buying. Parking is available. Washrooms and changing room just at the entrance of the beach is available on payment. Very well developed and maintained area outside the beach. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear to enjoy at this place. Shades and hats is must. Good for photography lovers. Good restaurant offering all types of menu just near to beach. Beach is neat and clean and tourists also well behaved. You can also enjoy adventurous water activities. You can take beach bench on nominal payment with beach umbrella and relax. Beer is served freely. Lot of shacks made of bamboos full of tourists enjoying drinks and sea food. Food is reasonable priced. Stay till sunset and enjoy the evening . After sunset all the shacks managers put comfortable seating next to beach with candles for tourists to enjoy the evening. Spend good quality time with your family and friends. Must visit place.

Everywhere you go in India is very crowded and Calangute beach is no exception. Lots of people, not all there for the beach, but that said there’s plenty of water sports to enjoy and beach shacks offering food and drinks, not always good value for money. Not really for the less young

This place can be visited in evenings to enjoy the sun set moment & relax on shacks. Also one can enjoy all water sports at mid-range pricing. You have good options to chill at cafe & enjoy drinks with snacks.

In November this resort is very popular with Indians, especially for their weekend breaks . The local hotels, resort and beach on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays will be packed and noisy. However, the weather is hot and sunny, the sea is warm and the beach has lovely to sand to walk on . We found that if you walk to the right hand side of the main beach for 2km you will find a quieter section to relax on . If you go to the left hand side it will be packed and Europeans are in the minority so expect to be harassed by the younger Indians and Hawkers.

Hi Please can someone let me know:
1. How much would a taxi be from Manohar Airport to Calungute area at about 1pm
2. Can you book a fixed price taxi from the airport and how does this work?
Thanks so much
Written November 13, 2024
Take help of airport authorities to get a genuine taxi operator should not charge more than Rs700 , I would suggest you rent a car from nearby location for few days and enjoy the locations which will be cheaper & practical option

Hi, I've heard a lot about the fact, that most of the beaches in GOA are extremely dirty, with broken glass and litter everywhere, as people drink heavily there and its not safe also.
That bad opinions impacted seriously GOA in terms of tourists numbers (both domestic! And international), which declined seriously.
BUT in 2019 - at the end, special agency started to work and maintain clearance of beaches in order to improve GOA picture and react on serious tourists drop. (Karnataka Commercial and Industrial Pvt Ltd)
SO - WHAT is the situation in GOA now? Can you guys, who visited that part of India in Dec 2019, Jan, Feb 2020 tell me and share your experience?
I know its India, no doubt, but is it really so dirty as even official agencies admit it as real problem?
Written February 25, 2020
Hi.We stayed in Calangute in Dec'19.I didn't come across any broken glass etc on the beach. Calangute Candolim were very clean. Yes you do come across empty bottles etc. On the path from hotel to the beach. So do wear your slippers.

Sorry, I’ve only just seen this question.
I can recommend Somy Resort hotel. It’s very well located and is being modernised. The room we had was super with good air con, and a lovely bathroom (You definitely wouldn’t want one of the older rooms).
We loved Calangute beach but were told to steer clear of Bagga?
India is a bit of a culture shock though.
