Very interesting visit with lots of history.. Neve knew much about Fort Morgan until visiting here. It seems to have played quite a role in our country’s defense.

Awesome civil war fort

Highly recommend-beautiful drive to the fort-lots of cool tunnels/rooms with museum to start off your tour. Self-guided walking tour of the grounds-beautiful shore view and if you have time can take the ferry to Dauphin Island.

Nice to do once
Mar 2021
Rode this trail on our bikes from Gulf Shores out to the end and back. It basically meanders along the road leading to Fort Morgan. Very nice, blacktopped trail with appropriate stop/yield signs at intersections. You do cross quite a few roads, but they are all pretty low traffic. Limited opportunity for wildlife viewing etc, although we did see a number of bluebirds. Traffic on Fort Morgan Road means that this trail has kind of an urban feel, in comparison to the trails in Gulf State Park nearby. Very flat trail, no terrain.

Good place to go on a rainy or cloudy day. Its all outdoors, so bring a coat if you are there earlier in the season.

Absolutely worth a visit
Jul 2020 • Family
We visited on a weekday morning. As a family of four, we were offered a discounted family pack admission for $20. We started with museum. Under current COVID-19 restrictions, there are a limited number of people allowed in the small museum. We waited in line a few minutes (10-15) for this. I recommend visiting the museum first in order to have a better appreciation for what you will view in the fort. The history of the site is impressive, though much of it somber. My kids, ages 8 and 11, thoroughly enjoyed exploring the fort. We packed water bottles which were much needed in the summer heat.

I love going to forts and looking back on the history of them. Morgan was easy to get around and is pet friendly. our dogs really enjoyed going on an outing with us. We really enjoyed our time there. The only issue we really had was parking, but the history of the place made up for it.

Fort Morgan
Jun 2020 • Family
After lunch we drove out to the Fort Morgan area without definite plans to visit the historical site. After driving all the way out there we decided to stop. They have a special for a family of four to enter for $20 that is slightly cheaper than normal admission. You receive a very informative brochure that is 12 pages long and contains maps and pictures along with the text. There isn’t a set route to take so you get to plan your own adventure. We enjoyed walking around the area and exploring the site. Our kids enjoyed finding the hidden rooms and hallways. For a structure that was in use in the Civil War it has held up well and was a fun diversion from the beaches of Gulf Shores.

Gorgeous Views and a History Lesson
Apr 2020
If you take the time to drive the Fort Morgan Peninsula (along Highway 180/aka Fort Morgan Road) and visit Fort Morgan, you will likely have a day to remember. As you drive out to the end of the peninsula, you will be treated to numerous great views of Little Lagoon, deep woods and the Gulf of Mexico. Along the way is the Bon Secour NWR with a great Nature Center and two great hiking nature trails. At the end of the trail is Fort Morgan, full of wonderful history. You can also hitch a ride on the Mobile Bay Ferry and be treated to a ride across the mouth of Mobile Bay that you will not soon forget. If you are looking to spend a day doing something other than the beach or expensive attractions, give this trail a try.
