My family enjoyed riding the ferry from Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island. I would highly recommend taking your car on the island because there is plenty of walking to do on the island to get from one side to the other if you choose to walk. We chose to drive which was half of the fun seeing our vehicle on the ferry being transported!

This was our first adventure with a ferry, it was alittle windy but loved the views and the quick trip.

First time we had used the ferry from Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island. We got a $2 off coupon at the Alabama Welcome Center...they charge per car and per person. Ride takes about 40 minutes. They want you to arrive 30 mins early so you can get in line and pay.....right now it is credit card only. The ferry holds about 28 cars and for our 930 am trip there were only about 10 cars aboard....but I can see where busy summer vacation time the ferry line could fill up fast. Nice ride across....they let you get out of the car. I thought they advertised a bathroom, but did not see one on ferry. All doors to the "cabin" said "crew only". There are bathrooms and a small snack bar right near the payment kiosk.

If you’ve never been on a vehicle ferry before, this is a good first-trip experience. The crossing is about 30 minutes and provides a view of oil well platforms, which are surprisingly close, as well as passing boats, including the other ferry. It’s okay to get out of your car and walk around the ferry, but there aren’t bathrooms or snacks. This is more of a utilitarian ferry than an excursion ferry. Nice smooth on and off ramps. We crossed from Dauphin Island on the Marissa Mae Nicole. Tourism wise, this ferry didn’t have a tall viewing platform, but there is one plaque about marine life. We only saw sea gulls and pelicans. Look for the small plaque on the rail to stand where President Barack Obama stood in 2011. Efficient staff with few bumps loading and unloading. Don’t rely on the Facebook times on the Dauphin Island side. Get in line when you arrive. We were across the Bay before our Facebook posted departure time.

Fun trip across the bay...you can get out of your car and wander around enjoying the ocean breeze and seeing the sites...plenty of birds to get great pictures of.
