Benedictins monastery from 16th century. Ugly outside but amazing inside. To my mind, it is the best chuch in Olinda. Don't skip this. Nice altar and all the carvings. A holy ceremony was going on when visited plus the church bells were ringing. It made it even more powerful experience ...

This church is in much better shape than many of the churches we saw in Brazil. It was difficult to hear our guide with all the noise going on outside due to Carnival preparation. The best part of the church is the view from the patio out the back. You overlook Recife and the Atlantic Ocean which is nice on... More

This great Benedictine monastery was originally built in 1582 and the interior is nothing less than dazzling. The rich wood carving is overlaid with gilt or silver-gilt of the most ornate decorative patterns, all with intricate religious themes. The carvings of the Madonna and of the Saints are intriguing and quite inspiring. Sunday Mass is regularly celebrated in the Gregorian-chant... More

I haven't been inside as unfortunately it was closed when I went there. The outside looks really nice.

Beautiful art and workmanship, one of those places you can leave Olinda without seeing. Like the cathedral downtown, the size is deceiving. The architecture and splendor are equal to those in europe.

Very well preserved gem of Brazilian history. Not only a beautiful historical church, with priceless art and beauty, but also the location of the first Brazilian law school, alma mater to many great figures of this country's history.

Unique experience! I went there with my American family and right away we found a tour guide from the street. His name is Andre and he was very nice and explained all the histories behind every wall and tile inside the church. We even got lucky and met and mong seating on the window and he told us they can't... More
