This was an amazing tour. Avid took us through the heart of Kolkata and to some local destinations and food outlets that no would be able to find on their own. The food was incredible, but the tour extended beyond this with Avik showing us what authentic local life is like in Kolkata both now and in the past. He also enhanced the tour through his sharing of local knowledge, customs, and culture. He even ensured we were sorted in our travel from the tour as we had a flight to catch soon after. I would highly recommend this tour. 10 stars!

We had a fantastic time on Avik’s food tour of Kolkata. From the outset when meeting him at the chaotic Esplanade station, to the bus ride to end the tour, we felt comfortable and safe in his company. Although we tried several brilliant Kolkata favourites, the food took a back seat to the amazing cultural side of Kolkata that Avik was able to show us - travelling around via several different means, walking through the oldest suburb in Kolkata, and standing at a busy junction to people watch - this trip had it all, and no question was too much for Avik. Our highlight was the perfect prawn cutlet we had at Allen’s, but all the food was lovely. A great night out in Kolkata with the brilliant Avik.

We had an amazing insight into the life of the real people of Kolkata as well as eating terrific food. With Avik we rode on local buses and rickshaws to parts of the city a tourist would never find. Walking along narrow alleyways of old colonial houses, faded now but still with beautiful wrought iron balconies and carved shutters revealing an elegant past, Avik explained the past and present of the city. We visited the tiny workshop of a clockmaker as well as a street of bookshops. He chose the eating stops with care, some owned by the same family over several generations. So much food, so much fun! It’s a must- must -do.

I have been coming to Kolkata to visit my wife's family for 15 years and have always enjoyed the life and vibrant nature of the city and its food scene. Even still, Avik took that appreciation even further, taking me and my brother-in-law to many places we have never been and showing us parts of the city we would likely never have explored. The food was all incredible, but Avik provided a soundtrack that elevated the experience. We will definitely look to meet up with Avik again in future trips to Kolkata.

Stomach meds check. Wet wipes check. Extra hand sanitizer check. This was our preparation for our uptown food tour. After a jolly Uber ride, making extensive use of my bhanga-bangla skills, we met Avik at the Esplanade train station and at a brisk pace we were off. The subway ride didn't feel unlike a quick trip on the 7 train in Queens and we quickly arrived at stop one to taste the best lassi we've ever had in our lives. I could go on about the classic, truly delicious, authentic Calcuttan food stops, or the back alley streets highlighting the fallen splendor of better times in the old city, but it is Avik himself that will make this a trip you will forever remember. Not only is he full of history and passion for his native city, but he will provide unique insights on what it means to be from Calcutta and more importantly what it is to be Bengali. He conducts himself with enthusiasm and a drive to build the best and most meaningful experience for his guests. While doing this he is also eager to learn about all of our experiences and what brought us to his hometown. As you trade stories with him, your inner foodie will be satisfied, but more importantly, so will your soul. It is the best welcome to Calcutta that a foreigner could ever receive. Thank you Avik!
