It's amazing to see such an old engine (1892) still runs. The ride is a return journey: Darjeeling-Ghum-Darjeeling, with 15 minutes stop at Batasia Loop and then 25 minutes at Ghum. The ticket cost includes visit to the museum at Ghum station. Choose trains with Vistadome coaches for better experience. The ride itself is through busy streets, constantly honking. So we decided to walk back to Darjeeling from Ghum.

the history of the DHR is fascinating. How the engineers built it, roughly 130 -140 years back is worth learning about and also experiencing it. Absolute must when one visits Darjeeling.

The rail museum at Ghoom, Darjeeling district is situated on the upper floor of the station building and can be accessed by the overbridge.
This is a small museum which presents the history of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It also attempts to make people aware of heritage conservation. The exhibits are a must-see for railway fans.

A short train trip from Darjeeling ends and turns around in Ghum. There's a 25min stop where you can pop into the train museum.
The train isn't that flash- just the novelty of riding it I guess. Lots of bends and turns!

The train ride was no fun . Hardly got to see any good scenery. The train passes through the streets of Darjeeling with shacks and small shops visible on either side. Batasia loop was full of vendors selling stuff .
A heritage should make one feel proud of it being there. The entry and walkway to ghum museum should be maintained and kept clean. The whole area is dirty with bottles and gutka packets strewn all over. Lot of work and cleanliness should be there to maintain a heritage which we should feel proud of .

I took the joy train to complete the Batasia Loop and the Ghoom station. The joy train stopped at Ghoom where there is a Railway Musuem displaying the early history of the station and its technical construction of the loop at different levels. It is worth viewing as the train stops there for about twenty minutes giving you enough time to browse throgh the musuem.

Hi - I don't think I can help you, the system may not be very efficient but that's the way it is. Having said that - it is still a lovely trip, so don't miss it.
