Neighborhood: Mylapore
The religious and cultural epicenter of Chennai, Mylapore is highly revered by the locals and tourists for the rich history and architectural marvels that line its narrow alleys and markets and is one of the oldest residential neighbourhood of the city. Home to a cluster of tree-lined avenues full of popular churches and the renowned Kapaleeswara Temple soaked in Dravidian architectural vibes, Mylapore is filled with small lanes with old-style homes, music auditoriums and stores selling music and religious memorabilia. The bazaars selling jewellery, fresh produce and flowers that surround the streets of this neighbourhood provide a colourful backdrop to the temple. Aimless strolls through the small lanes lead you to hidden corners of some mouth-watering south-Indian dishes served at local places like Maami’s mess, Jannal Kadai and Kaalathi Stall.

We managed to get to this holy temple by car when we were in Chennai. The temple was not crowded at the time when we visited it. WE felt blessed by the darshan of Shridi Sai baba.

a good place to visit when you go to the nearby St. Thome Catholic Cathedral..... if going by bus, one should get off at the Luz bus stop or the Mylapore Tank bus stop.... either bus stop will be walking distance....

One should not go expecting a touristy attitude here. You have to go if you are a Sai Baba devotee. Although I must say that the main Baba statue as well as the other Baba temples within the premises are very beautiful we should only refer to them with devotion rather than with eye for any sculptures or aesthetics. Of course, the mood of the place, the Thursday Prasad and the bhajans are an experience by themselves! Although, my humble suggestion not to take little children there. It is way too crowded.

Calm and quite ambience., Thursdays open all day long from 5 am i believe to 9.30pm, separate hall for meditation, expect ques on thursdays to get close to baba idols, one could touch baba idol and offer garlands in close proximity which is quite heart fulfilling. The whole has to be experience and couldn't be expressed in words. A quite corner to light candles and lamps and offer prayers to allah, jesus or baba all in one place. Only place where this provision is available as far as my experience. One could offer donations for annadhana also. In whole a place where one needs to visit personally to experience baba.
