About
This expansive beach is Chennai's most famous tourist attraction, though the undercurrent is too strong for all but the strongest swimmers. Look out for the "Kannagi" statue on Marina Beach, which tells the story of the legendary character from a South Indian epic.

    Smille place
Good place. Best view.should restrict the people from carrying plastics and other eatable items inside the beach area. The sea is highly polluted and unfit for bathing. This beach is dotted with many tourist places around and the best time to visit is in the evenings. It can be accessed from any parts of the Chennai city. Hotels/ Accommodation is available in Triplicane and Mylapore areas. Safety is a concern as the sea is rough, dirty and no protective gears if you are venturing into the sea for swimming. Very good place. Iam Happy

Lots to See and Do Here
We came here around noon on a hot, sunny day. There are stalls at the beach but very few were opened for business during or visit. The story might be different later in the afternoon where more of them would be open and there would be more customers. There are other attractions to visit here, statues to see and identify, temples to visit, etc.

    Very impressive.
A beach that is second to none. The beach in Chennai is about 400 m wide and stretches along forever. It is the second youngest beach in the world that is continuously there. There are parking spaces and many stalls that open in the evening when the sun goes down. Most locals come to the beach from around 5 p.m. and stay until around 9 p.m. And people laugh and talk together and just relax. It is very unusual how we experienced it there. You are in the middle of the city and the city has its own continuous beach - amazing! There are countless museums and attractions on this promenade, public graves of Tamil Nadu personalities and also a St. Thomas Cathedral.

A sprawling beach bustling with crowd and activity
A beach with a long and fantastic coastline. many memorials and associated exhibits. Large number and types of vendors and hawkers. Good place for an evening outing, especially for the Indian public space ambience.

    Understated and quiet beach.
Not a very happening beach. Few stalls. Metro Rail work going on. Not many people ventured into the waters. Waves kissed the beach and people relished these touch their feet. Most of the people were just sitting by the side simply witnessing the waves come and subside back.

Thrilling and enjoying visit to Marina Beach
If you are visiting Chennai, then a must visit place apart from temples, museum, is the Marina Beach, which is the second longest beach. Its can be easily approached by bus, and train. If u must bathe in the sea, then a 10 min walk from the beach road will give u immense pleasure of strolling through the sands, and the wayside small shops to quench your thirst, and also not to mention the Bajji and non veg dishes along with snacks. There are small rides for children, balloon shooting games, and not to forget the horse rides,

One of the longest beaches in the world
Marina Beach is one of the longest beaches in India and may be the world. Wikipedia says it is the second longest beach in the world. The width of the sand banks is very large which makes it an effort to reach the water. It generally remains crowded in the evenings and on holidays. Swimming and bathing is prohibited here due to danger of strong waves and under currents.

I went at 10:30am and was surprised to see the beach was empty. Even at 5:30pm, the snack sellers were just starting to come and getting out vegetables to cook. Policemen on horses were telling people not to go in the water as the waves were too high.

Best breeze in the world .A place for relaxation and enjoy ment. The eateries are great. Smiling faces of the vendors and the mornings sun shine over the once British colonial building take you back in time.

Beautiful and serene beach, the walk from the road to the water is a bit long but that's to be expected from the longest beach in Asia right?
I usually go sit there in the evening with friends, just listening to the waves and the ocean sound is something that i enjoyed.
Always gives me peace of mind whenever I look at the water and really could feel the waves traveling deep inside your heart beat.
Although I would advise you to avoid going after 7pm, then it's become too crowded and also be careful of the local teens in and about.

It is wrong to present it as a "tourist attraction". It is not suitable for beach life because people go there fully dressed just to breathe some clean air, given the city's pollution. The beach is too deep and you have to walk a long uncomfortable stretch in the sand to reach the shore, which, once you reach it, offers nothing special. The whole beach is not equipped and is also dirty, so it is not pleasant to stop or sit. I only encountered carts and stalls selling street food, which can be found everywhere in the city. On this seafront there are no interesting clubs or restaurants to dine in the evening. The only reason to go there is to share a space in the city with the local population. I was there around sunset and it was quite deserted and desolate, and also dark, because the exposure on the Bay of Bengal features the sunrise and not the beautiful sunsets of the west coast.

Maybe I made a mistake of visiting it during daytime, because there is nothing at all here. The beach itself is average with nothing to write home about, while the avenue with the statues are undergoing public transport renovation so you can't really see the statues right now. On top of that, the sun is too glaring with nothing else to do and see. Skip, or maybe try during evening?

Great Landmark beach, Could have been maintained better. we went to the beach on a working day at 4:00 PM, Just to enjoy time at the beach. Let me outline my experience,
a) Beach sand had a lot of garbage mixed, including broken bottles, plastic caps, plastic over
b) There was a lot of garbage thrown back by the sea on the beach, nothing was cleared. There was barely any place right by the beach where you could sit down and enjoy. Too much of rotten stuff. I was surprised to see a mattress also thrown back by the sea
c) there was a mechanized sand combing machine that is supposed to collect garbage from the beach sand. It was just wasting time and money. It was doing nothing.
d) We saw a couple pull out the diaper of their child and dump it on the beach. There is no toilet or any infrastructure where children can be taken care of.

We just squatted there for some time and decided to bail out. Highly dissatisfied.

Sand is grainy. Long stretch before one reaches the sea. Food joints and others add to the experience but thr vastness is brilliant.
PDA is common here and largely unavoidable if one goes in late evenings.

We preferred the southern end of the beach, past the lighthouse and along Foreshore Estate Promenade. This is where fishermen bring their boats onto the beach and their wives line the edge of the beach preparing and selling the catch from small stalls shielded from the sun by parasols. More kinds of fish than we could identify. Everyone seems friendly and happy to allow photos and engage in hand-sign talk with non Tamil speakers like us. This is a working beach - covered in brightly coloured fishing boats, nets, fishing gear and assorted fishing related debris. We went late morning, we are told early morning is the really busy time. If you are visiting St Tome Cathedral then it’s a short walk to this area.
