Pantheon street also known as cotton street is famous for cotton dress materials. Majority of the material are cotton u can even find other materials like silk cotton, shifon, crepe etc. U can get materials for very cheap price. U can bargain and get materials for even 60rs per metre. U of have good sense of mix and match then u can b a star. For maintaining uniformity for any function(brides made, flower girls etc) this is the best place to get cloths. Even for Chennai summer cotton is the best.

Colorful place, full of cotton clothes. You can get any variety of cotton here starting from 80 rupees per meter to 300. Good place to buy upholstery. Very few shops sell men's clothing but they are good.Mostly women clothing are sold and variety of Kalamkhari materials are the speciality of the place.Few shops sell ready made garments. Remember to bargain to get the best price!

Where else can you get the famous Gaza Cotton and Madras checks at one place. Highly recommended especially for people redoing their houses.

If you want to make something nice for yourself and you love to stitch, go to cotton lane on pantheon road. This place has a few makeshift shops and they have a huge variety of Ikat cottons, handloom fabrics, synthetic fabrics of all kinds. They sell readymade garments too. There may be a few fitting related problems, as they sell rejected clothing, if you're up to that, you may find some good pieces at dirt cheap rates.
I found lovely stuff in mill made, hand block printed and woven fabric segment. Be ready to bargain a lot and carry an umbrella and a water bottle along.

U may get the impression of only these much shops....once u reach there...also called as cotton pet...but all the shops has quite a lot of collection in cottons...for the hot chennai weather...i browsed all the shops and purchased few dress materials. U may need to bargain a little and all the shops have around same stuffs..esp varieties of kalamkari.

I stayed in the Belstead for a few days while in Chennai. The staff was fantastic. The main doorman, and the others who also were on the door, were excellent. Always keen to help with securing a tuk tuk, assisting with luggage, very pleasant attitude. Front desk was helpful and a competent level of customer service. The room was clean and tidy and excelent air con. The breakfast bar at the restaurant was adequate. Again, the staff were very obliging
