Johari Bazaar, a must visit market, located near Hawa Mahal is a shopper’s paradise in Jaipur. The word ‘Johari’ in Hindi means ‘Jeweller’, so the name describes itself. The market is lined with hundreds of shops that deal with exclusive jewellery and artefacts representing the rich Rajasthani culture and craftsmanship of the city. Not only jewellery, it is also an ideal place to shop for lehengas, exquisite Mojari’s or Jutis (leather sandals), and sarees in colourful Bandhej and glittering stonework or gemstones. We went there to buy lahengas, bed sheets, gift items, souvenirs, shawls etc. After moving in different streets we were able to find the most to our satisfaction. Even if you are there not to buy anything, the market will tempt you to buy something. If you feel tired and dry, do not forget to have Shikanjee or Sugar Cane Juice. One can try local snacks also.

Even if you don't want to buy anything, it is worth having a walk through the Johri Bazaar just to experience the sights and sound but bear in mind that it will be extremely busy and crowded. If you do want to shop, then this is the place for you as long as you have got your wits about you to spot the genuine article and are prepared to haggle. There's a lot of 'wedding' related items. Look out especially for, on the first floor, brightly coloured turbans which can be hired.

Located at a walking distance from the City Palace/ Jantar Mantar/ Hawa Mahal, this market area is a great place to buy anything & everything. If you're looking for traditional Rajasthani items, you'll be spoilt for choice here. If you're looking for wedding - related finery, this is the place.
The entire market has been made in a consistent color scheme of 'Pink City' giving it a charming look. However, do note, there is no parking available here. So, leave your car behind & catch a public transport.

Johari Bazaar is one of Jaipur’s most famous street, a straight colonnade screened above by the facades of adjoining houses. Everything is painted orange and terracotta. This is said to be the oldest market area in Jaipur. Here you will find exquisite Jaipuri jewellery made of gold, silver, diamonds and emeralds. The narrow lanes are full of loads of shops that sell jewellery and clothes. An amazing collection of sarees, ‘lehengas’ and ‘juttis’ (traditional foot wears). It is worth walking down this street just for the experience. The smell and sounds are unique.

Nice market for lesser budget shopping. Good variety of products. Need to be careful with prices and must bargain. Parking is available but may be difficult during peak hours. Nice Mishthan store and lassi kulfi places

From the Sanganeri gate, the Johari bazaar starts and extends up to Badi chaupad. You could find lot of silver, gold and art jewelry shops in Johari bazaar. One should have more knowledge about buying gems in these shops. You can test the gems in the Gem testing lab on M.I road which is very close to all pink city wall bazaars.Gopalji ka rassta and Haldion ka rasta are two streets sells gems, jewelry in wholesale prices. These two streets are small lanes from Johari bazaar street. There is one more lane called "Gheewalon ki rassta filled with sweet shops. At the very entrance, you can find "Brijwasi Mishtan Bandar" for Badam lassi and special Ghewar(Rajasthani sweet). You can buy it from LMB also. LMB food is good but full of ghee(health conscious: I say no). I bought silver jewelry from Shyam jewelers(shop was crowded with locals so I decided to buy from them). shop number: 211 sells zari, gota patti borders in reasonable prices. I request travelers to mention their shopping experiences like me so that the shopping will be easy and less expensive. You can even find loo facilities in the same street. Note : Sunday -holiday for all shops.

Johri Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar are adjacent to each other and and close to Chauda Rasta or Pink City Main Gate. This market offers all kind of shops. The market is nicely planned which makes it easier to roam around and search shops by its serial number. The markets' biggest attractions are artificial and silver jewellery, ethnic jewellery, ladies ethnic garments, bangles, ladies purse, souvenirs, toys and Jaipuri Blanket. One must bargain at this market and quote price lesser by 25% to 35%. Few shops have got "fixed price" policy though. You can also buy jaipuri bedsheets. This market is well connected by road and parking is also available outside the market area. Don't let your driver take you to any other market or shop of his choice, as they take commissions from shopkeepers for giving them customers. Bapu Bazaar and Johri Bazaar are enough for shopping in Jaipur.

Johri Baazar is the oldest bazzar of Jaipur which given any time of day is just flooded with tourists. The bazzar has all kind to shop but mostly famous for Jewelry shops in the market.
Advice : 1) Don't even by mistake take your own vehicle to the market as you won't find any parking and will also be stuck in traffic.
2) Market starts closing by 8.00pm or 20.00Hrs so if you plan to shop and explore start early.
3) If you are a Foreign National be assured you are being over quoted the price of everything and don't trust any one who tells you that they will take you to the "best" shop or "cheap" shop. No such thing exists
Shop for artificial jewelry and clothing from this market.
PS LMB or Laxmi Mishtan Bandar is to be avoided at all costs. Not only they mark up eveything and don't issue cash-memo(bill) thus stealing GST(tax) but also the food is pathetic.

This market is an absolute must visit for anyone going to Jaipur, including all men. This is in close proximity to the Hawa Mahal, bapu market and jantar mantar.
Things to buy:
Silver jewellery (but be sure that the jewellery is genuine)
Fashion jewellery-pachhi work available here is to die for
Leather bags and slippers from Hawa Mahal
Glass mosaic lamps from hawa mahal
Fabrics with traditional prints
Puppets
Lac bangles
Beware of touts selling gemstones and avoid making any big ticket purchases. Stories of tie and die prints getting washed off and fake jewellery are not uncommon.
Try out traditional food at Laxmi Mishtan Bhandar, commonly known as LMB. Order the papad mungodi soup, ker sangri and dal bati to savour some authentic flavours of Rajasthan.

Is Johri Bazaar open or closed on Sundays now post lockdown ?
Written January 27, 2021
Where exactly is this bazaar. We walked up Johri bazaar road and had dinner at LMB, but most shops on street had no foreigners. Is this bazaar all together or encompasses several streets.

Hi everyone, is it advisable to visit the Bazaars in Jaipur with a guide?. We're a couple coming from Australia. Would there be less hassle if we were accompanied by a local? Love visiting markets, however I need my own space and time to think and look. Thanks in advance.

Hello!
Dear Cate S, hiring a guide for shopping in any of the tourist place has its own pros and cons.
Pros:
1. Guide can help you search the right shop in no time.
2. Johri Bazaar is an ocean and a guide can help you understand market, commodities and people.
3. Bargaining is an art and you have to master it if you are visiting India. A guide can't bargain on your behalf though, but can surely tell you if the prices quoted are super inflated or acceptable.
Cons:
1. The same guide, in spite of taking you to the best shop can take you to the shop for which he is working on commission basis.
2. Even though Johri Bazaar is an ocean, but exploring it would definitely be a fun. A guide can curtail this experience by giving wrong information.
3. Logically, ethically and professionally, its not guide's job to bargain prices for tourists. So hiring him for this purpose would go in vain.
Conclusion: You need a local friend rather than a local guide for exploring Johri Bazaar.

Which is the best place to buy gotta pati suits and also artificial jewellery
Written March 18, 2019
Johri Bazaar is full of women's apparels and artificial jewelleries. There are street side hawkers and dedicated shops as well for artificial jewelleries. Dedicated shops for gottas are also there. Beware of inflated price. Negotiate, definitely negotiate. Use your wisdom to bring the price down to match your Mumbai price and then u can settle at a final price. Johri bazaar is a well organised bazaar with shops numbered serially. So find one that suits you best. Don't forget to keep 3 to 4 hrs at least for shopping. Its a huge market. All the Best

Go to mohan Lal ashok kumar 223, Johri bazar for jewellery
Roop Laxmi for saree lehangas

A local would provide a better answer. We did not buy real gems, but enjoyed the craftsmanship and customization offered at many shops.

Were you bargaining with/carrying USD or Rupees? I am traveling there in May. Thanks!
Written March 30, 2017
I'd recommend bargaining with Rupees. Keep lower denominations on hand. The markup on some of these items is ridiculous. Visit multiple stalls and never base your price on what the first stall tells you, you'll see the same things over and over again with varying prices.
