One of those old age single screen theater, which is still standing in the age of multiplex. The screen size is grand, and the viewing experience and sound quality is good. The seats are the old style so might not be comfortable for all. Usually get tickets for this theater even at last minute as there are plenty of seats. Balcony seats in the top tier are most preferable. Popcorn and refreshments are reasonably priced. You will find it difficult to find parking space here, so better travel by taxi.

Beautiful Building

I’ve seen a couple of movies here and that’s an experience.

The audience stands for the national anthem before the movie. That caught me out embaracingly once! Just me seated.

But what’s really lovely is the Art Deco styling. I never tire of seeing it. And I work nearby from time to time so have seen it lots of times.

It’s at one end of Colaba Causeway and not too far from the Taj hotel and the Gateway of India; so if you’re there check it out.

If you fancy checking out a movie, it’s not just Bollywood; American and British movies play too. Not sure about other European movies; never seen any on.

We looked for Regal theater while in Mumbai since it was one of the recent UNESCO designated Art Deco structures in Mumbai.
It appears to be in active use. Definitely could use some repair and maintenance.

Beautiful old school art deco cinema. A true theatre to watch a Bollywood film at. At less than $5AUD this is not an experience to be missed! Support these historical places. Not far from the Gateway of India.

Regal is my favourite theatre of all in Mumbai. Charming is what it describes it best.
It is one of the last few single screen theatres in Mumbai that still screens top-tier movies and it is my first preference when it is running a movie that I want to watch.

Step inside and you'll understand the difference between a 'theatre' and a 'multiplex screen'.
The number of people it can accommodate is probably unmatched; probably thrice the number of the largest multiplex in Mumbai. The screen size is respectably large as well and not those tiny ones that the multiplexes have. Add to that its noticeably curved screen suitable for wider viewing. The sound system is top-notch. You also have the distinctive art-deco styling that you hear about all the time. The seating may be a bit outdated with its wooden seats and coir cushioning but backsides that have been hardened from Mumbai's local trains will find any cushion comfortable. If you have 50/100 rupees to spare you can pay extra for the 'Balcony' or 'Dress Circle' experience which is at a level above the rest of the seats classified as 'Stalls' (Upper, Middle and Lower). The air-conditioning is optimal. Outside the viewing area, the interiors are a bit dimly lit and lack the gltiz and polish of the glass and stainless steel from multiplexes; however, they are clean and well maintained. So are the washrooms. Canteen food is comparatively affordable and I swear by the coffee and caramel popcorn here. The tickets also tend to be cheaper as compared to any multiplex.

Location-wise is a 20 minute walk from VT and 15 minute walk from Churchgate but nobody should complain about walking those roads. If you are a tourist to Mumbai or just new here make sure you make it a point to watch a movie here at least once. Its 'patrons' are dwindling but I hope people like me and you can keep it in business

You cannot find a better place to watch a Bollywood movie while travelling to Mumbai. Central location, tasty popcorn and historical building. The movie we watched happened to have English subtitles. The most expensive tickets are Rs.300 only - bargain! Nice to spend a few hours after walking and shopping around Colaba.

The first art decco building of Mumbai built in early 1930s, it still retains its charm. In age of multiplexes going to theater like these is a different experience all together. Tickets are cheap as are the snacks like popcorn, burgers and frankies. The screen is wide and seating is comfortable. Do go once to relive the old golden era.

In the age of multi-plexes, Regal is one of the few still operating. The old grandeur of the theatre is well maintained and Art Deco style is charming.
