Had been to this magnificent art gallery a few weeks ago. It is located inside the Sir Cowasji Jehangir Public Hall.
Established in 1996, this art gallery is administered by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It presents various exhibitions and collections of modern art. This art gallery has 5 spacious floors. It is visited by locals and foreign tourists. For security reasons, one has to keep baggage in the locker before entering inside. the entrance fees are Rs. 20 per Indian and Rs. 500 per foreigner.Â
This art gallery is open from 11 am to 6 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. It is closed on Mondays and Public Holidays. Photography is allowed is some places and not allowed in other places. Outside the gallery is a marble bust of Sir Cowasji Jehangir. Had roamed inside the entire gallery and admired the beautiful contemporary handmade textiles.Â
This art gallery is an ideal place for families, school children as well as art lovers. It is a must visit and should not be missed.

We stopped in for about an hour. There were some very interesting pieces. It was fairly inexpensive, though the price for foreigners was much greater than that for locals. You can't bring your bag in, but they have free storage lockers.

Let us note that non-Indians have to pay 25 times more than Indian nationals to enter the place. The discriminatory tone is set.
This place shows contemporary exporters and importers of Indian culture: Indian artists who achieve some international fame, and international artists who have been influence by Indian culture. Beyond this, the thread is hard to fathom and untold.
Of the phenomenon of the mix of cultures, only a bit of the surface is shown, through a few highlights insufficiently documented. The museum has enough room to show double the number of exhibits.
The upper, round coupole is quite remarkable, and could offer a great aesthetic experience. Little of that is achieved.

I visited a stunning retrospective of the work of Lalita Lajmi. The exhibition is spread over the entire museum and really allows each piece to be appreciated. We spent about 1 ½ hours but you could easily spend more time. I will go again.
We were privileged to be guided by the curator, Sumesh Sharma.
The work is intense and very moving, with references to Frieda Kahlo.

I went during the Sachin Tendulkar exhibit, unfortunately. Floor after floor of cricket bats. What a yawn! The museum isn't too clean or in the best nick, it's your typical low standard Indian exhibit. 150 Rs for foreigners to enter.

Visited 8/7/18. The venue is quite small in terms of floor space and there were 4 floors to climb, bit of a rabbit warren. The main issue was after paying 500 rupee, (locals 50) there was only one artist being displayed and the content was very mediocre to say the least, a few sculptures frequently on a common theme supported with heaps of pen ink on paper pictures all in the same style. Sorry but for my money the New Delhi MOMA was far better value and had a wide range of various artists and media

While Jahangir is a better know Art Gallery but I personally like visiting the National Gallery of Modern art. The exhibits are contemporary and its always refreshing to see the new works. You could spend a good 2-3 hours getting lost in the works.

Seriously I haven't seen anything this pitiful since my 8th grade art class. Uninspiring works framed in old frames, in need of an upgrade.
Discriminatory pricing that I haven't seen since Singapore.
Rs. 10 for locals
Rs. 500 for tourists (this is wrong)

Fantastic art gallery. Although the foreigner rate is incredibly high (rs500) and they don’t offer student discounts to foreigners, the current exhibition is called “WALKING THROUGH SOUL CITY - SUDHIR PATWARDHAN: A RETROSPECTIVE" (30th Nov 2019- 12th Feb 2020) and certainly is well worth the price. The artist is amazing; painting the people of Mumbai itself while the curator did an outstanding job. The cafe is average but is a nice place to sit and not unreasonably priced. The gallery is incredibly clean and the staff all have degrees in fine art or the like and so know what they’re talking about and are incredibly friendly.

Only few paints and sculptures. No worth the visit. The worst restrooms I had ever seen in a Museum.
