Regal Circle

Top ways to experience Regal Circle and nearby attractions

The area

Neighborhood: Colaba
It’s the tourist central of the city with a liberal dose of rich history, iconic eating and drinking joints and artistic connections that have found prominent mentions in Gregory David Roberts’ Shantaram. Stroll down Colaba Causeway for kitschy street shopping bargains. Take a break at the many laid-back legendary bars & restaurants like Cafe Mondegar or Leopold Café. The vibrant vibe of Colaba is incomplete without the buzz at Mumbai’s most iconic tourist hub, Gateway of India & The Taj Mahal Hotel on the parallel lane. Sprinkled with designer boutiques, quaint cafes with rooftop sea view, the promenade is a popular route to go to Elephanta Caves & Alibaug.

Regal circle is located near Museum in Fort area. Now it is renamed as Dr.Shyama Prasad Mukherji who was a veteran Indian leader. There are many important structures like Museum, Jehangir art gallery,NGMA, Regal cinema located in nearby vicinity.

Regal Circle is more of a landmark than an attraction. It is pretty much the beginning of Colaba / Apollo Bunder. Roads around the circle lead towards Fort, Docks/Ballard estate, Gateway of India / Taj Hotel, Colaba Causeway, Nariman Point. Around the circle is located Regal Theatre and also the Maharashtra police Headuarters, an antique store.... A short walk away is the Gateway of India, Taj Mahal Palace hotel, and of course the ever so popular Colaba causeway for shoppers. A number of bars and restaurants are also walking distance away.

Roads from Fountain, Nariman Point , Colaba, Apollo Bandar, Ballard Estate and another lane leading to Cuffe Parade all converge at this Circle. Though the "circle' is a carpark, the surrounding structures are symbolic of Bombay's architectural diversity...the Art Deco regal cinema, The prince Of Wales museum and The Gallery of Art ( CJ Hall) are all on the circle and are all iconic bombay structures. There are excellent restaurants and shops within 100 metres of the circle..its definitely a buzzing, attractive landmark in modern Mumbai despite being ensconced with British indian architecture!

The circle is surrounded by art decco buildings including Regal theatre which is the first art decco building of Mumbai. The circle also has the Wellington fountain. Being close to Gateway of India it is always crowded.
