Royal Opera House - One of the best Theatre and events venues in south mumbai
Feb 2020 • Couples
This is the Royal Opera House at Opera House, yes the Opera House area obviously been names after it.

This is a heritage property was inaugurated by King George V in the year 1911,

It is made In the Baroque style of architecture and is one of the few remaining structures in Mumbai as of now,

In October 2016 it was restored to its original glory and it was a very large project, visiting it now will take u back to the old times where Opera Houses used to rule the roost when it came to entertainment venues,

It has also won a Unesco award for cultural heritage conservation in the year 2017,

The venue in its current avatar is host to about 200 plus Theatre and entertainment events through the year, they have the old charm of having An area of Stalls, Balcony and have Boxes too, they also have side view boxes but they aren’t available for rent outs, they open them for special events.

Altogether it would be a great place to visit for theatre lovers as well as Art Deco style building and heritage building lovers.

Recently renovated, the Royal Opera House, which was closed for several years, has reopened as a truly grand Opera House. The decor, the ambience, the seating, the stage, each is perfect. Viewing a performance here is delightful experience.

experience at the Opera House
Nov 2019
I visited the place yesterday with the family, for the first time after it was open. 1) the Theatre is impressive. 2) The play titled "Untitled" was to start at 7 pm,.. the doors opened after 7, the show started around 730 pm. during intermission while i was seated, i wanted to have one sip of water from a small container which we always carry in our bag wherever we go. The someone i removed it, one of the Ushers came and stopped me. He very rudely said" if you want to have water you need to go out". This was a shocking behaviour. How can they prevent anybody from having water, what if the person was very sick and at that moment that drop of water was very important, and life threatening situation? 😊

Impressive and Unique

Royal Opera House in South Mumbai is an impressive and unique building, after it’s renovation. Got to see it’s magnificent architecture from the outside. Next time when in Mumbai, will certainly plan to be a part of the audience of any performance and view the interiors as well.

Lovely place for plays in Mumbai. After renovation it is a must visit place .Since it is Grand Old Opera House one floor is like two floors .Hence third floor viewing is not for faint ❤️, there being no elevators.
Overall super viewing only from ground floor.

Good.

Went to see the Gauhar ,though the renovation work done is fabulous, the look and feel of the Opera house is excellent.
Two things to note-

Surprisingly when they were doing the renovation, they completely forgot about the lifts! Not that we needed it but it will be a big problem if I decide to go with my parents.

Secondly, the coffee and sandwiches pricing is exorbitant.100/- for a small cup of coffee served in takeways cups at their waiting area.Same pricing for a cheese sandwich, which was not even soft and fresh. The snacks served at St Andrews and NCPA is far better.

The name Opera House was primarily used as a location finder or while referring to a bus stop by people and the building itself was not a pretty sight.
Fast forward it has undergone a Cinderella-like transformation under the aegis of a prominent business family and the facade and interior are a cynosure for all eyes especially when illuminated.
Events and shows are held there at regular intervals and tickets are available to the public. It is not extended for general viewing but certainly a landmark in the city of Mumbai as the first privately held Royal Opera House.

Good effort to revive a heritage property. Falls short on expectations.

We saw an English play on 2nd June 2019. The instructions were to be there before 7pm else the doors will be closed. They opened the gates only at 7.05 pm. The restaurant has closed down. The site suggests otherwise. Commendable effort to reopen the Opera House but falls short on expectations.

Superb place to watch a play

Off late, have been going to watch a lot of theatre plays at Royal Opera House. It's a class apart and well maintained. The auditorium exudes a luxurious feel to the entire evening.
Do visit and feel the difference.

Poor management in a children's concert!on 6th April 2019.
Apr 2019 • Family
There were no water or snack s available at 1st and 2 nd floor of the theater.. though there was an intermission in a famous concert...the climb to reach the seats were very steep and for senior citizens and old or handicapped person, there was always a chance to fall down ..as there were no lifts available. The toilets were only on the ground floor and climbing up and down is not at all a present experience. Overall, this property being a heritage one, lot of minor details were ignored..unfortunately. we advise, to avoid the seats on the 1st and the 2nd floor..to all ..Overall, the theater has preserved it's old charm at the cost of the citizens visiting to see a play or the concert..
