The Bombay High Court is a functioning court of law and one of the 3 original High Courts established by the British in the Victorian era. The building is a major landmark of the city and a nice example of Gothic revival. As with most courts, the building has a sculpture of Lady Justice atop the central tower where she stands on one of the octagonal towers while Lady Mercy stands on the other.

A fantastic building from the time of the British Empire that would not look out of place as a palace.

Very impressive Victorian Gothic architecture, with gabled rooftops adding to the beauty. Very fitting building for the High Court of Bombay. The stature and impressiveness of the structures are in befitting of the governance it houses.

For any traveller interested in Colonial architecture, a visit to the High Court is a must. This Gothic building built completed in 1878, has a distinct style - Built in the days when space was not a constraint, the Court rooms have high ceilings and the walls of many of the Court rooms are adorned with some of the Judges that sat at this Court. The Library on the 2nd Floor has a wide range of law books, dating to the early 19th century. Sadly many of the tomes are in neglect and presently in disarray with the renovations that are taking place. Take a walk around the corridors and admire the stone friezes that adorn the pillars - each of them tell a tale. Since this is a working Court, there is security at the entrance, and often identification is required. Cameras are discouraged, but for the tourist the building is indeed a wonder. Should you come during the Court hours and stop at one of the Court to hear advocates pleading their cases. Their quaint manner of addressing the Judges, their robes would take you back to the days of yore. Worth a visit . The Court is still the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, no Mumbai if you please!

Most desciplined, well mannered, well cultured, highly knowledgedable, traditional and finest lawyers practise in this Court. The Judges of this Court are really lucky and command maximum respect before this Court. The Lawyers practising here are highly professional and has highest regard for the Judiciary of this Country. The Lawyers representing different social strata practise before this Hon'ble Court. However, once they enter the premises of the Hon'ble High Court they all are equal and command respect as an officer of this HOn'ble Court. This has been the First HIgh Court of this Country and is even historically important. The building is a heritage structure and has one of the finest sculpture carved out in its walls and pillars. The building is being maintained by the legal community but however the litigants who visit this premises hardly bother to respect the scantity of this place and try toi litter this place like any other hertitage structure of this city. This Court has undisputedly given finest legal luminaries to this nation and till date they have been making best possible attempt to maintain its scantity, its integrity, its standard, its class, its perfection.

If you are in the original Mumbai as was planned by the Britishers, you will come across many amazing Victorian styled buildings - the high court being one of them. If you love architecture, it will be worth seeing this from a distance and wonder how beautiful Mumbai was then when it was Bombay.
