Malabar Hill is an amazing and calm location, great for those who are in love with nature and history together. The green parks, fresh sea breeze and stunning views of the sea makes you feel as if you have stepped out of the busy city. The well known Hanging Gardens are perfect for sitting idle and the evening view of the sea coast cannot be described with words, it is mindblowing.
This Coastline is even more popular due to the variety of cultures. The historic Banganga Tank and the aged temples situated there makes it even more especial for those history and myth followers. The place is very old and has remarkable stories to tell, from being a base for colonial officers to having connects with ancient pirate tales.
It is one of the richest locations having mentioning on important people and beautiful houses. Even being in an ultra modern city like Mumbai, you can find peace and serenity. It is a great spot for walking, sight seeing or even to see the sunsets.

Malabar Hill is a hillock and posh residential neighborhood in Mumbai. It is the home to several business tycoons, film personalities and Govt Official, prominent landmarks include the Governor and Chief Minister’s Bungalow. It also houses Hanging Gardens, Jain Temple, Banganga Tank etc. The Hanging gardens is a perfect place for a leisurely stroll. Further, viewing gallery in Kamala Nehru Park provides and nice view of Nariman Point, Marine Drive, Chowpatti Beach etc. with telescopes.

This is an upscale residential area where business tycoons and film personalities live. Malabar Hill, is stuated at a height of 50 metres and is the highest point in South Mumbai. Apart from being upmarket and you will note that there is an increased police presence, you will find green areas such as the Hanging Gardens.

It is really wonderful experience to have stayed in this wonderful traditional club. I do not think the general public would be having access to this except you are a member of this club or a member of the affiliated club. Wonderful ambience, excellent and economical food. Good simming pool and tennis courts.
I would love to stay again here with family.

I is a decent spread for a garden, especially for Mumbai. But then all the trouble travelling so much just for a garden?? And the views are nothing that great. And plz do not even think of driving there, since parking is a trouble (well nothing new for a Mumbaikar!)

Malabar Hills is a posh residential area of South Bombay. I have mentioned more than 3 hours of visiting time as there are multiple options to choose from and depending on your personal taste you can pick and choose.
One way is to drive by in a taxi/cab and feel the difference and the other way is to explore and experience the area on foot. The positive of being on foot gives you the freedom to explore and walk down the by-lanes which are unaccessible by cars and of course you can stop at places and relax and take in the views.
A lot of high profile people stay in the area either in private bungalows or in swanky high rise apartments and then of course there are the trademark slums in every corner but much better maintained.
Some of the interesting places to visit:
- PDP or The Priyadarshini Park. You can go for morning or evening walks and they have multiple options to explore like the Athletic Tracks, Yoga, Sea Beach, Rocky Landscape, Green Pathways and of course the benches where you can sit and let time pass by.
- Hanging Gardens or the Pherozeshah Mehta Park and the Kamla Nehru Park which gives a beautiful view of the Bombay landscape, the old shoe house, swings for kids and just the garden to stroll around. There is also an interesting street market just on the road outside the Hanging Gardens and Kamla Nehru Park which sells interesting stuff.
- For the religious there is the Jain Temple
- Banganga Tank with a lovely view
The area is much greener and one can walk down till Girgaum Chowpatty through the Walkeshwar Road which also has the Walkeshwar Temple.
Some good places to stay are also available but if you are looking for great food and drinks options then you will have to look towards Marine Drive or Nariman Point.
But if you are game for local/street food then you have some interesting options on the Nepean Sea Road. You can buy meals from roadside vendors at really cheap prices and yes at these places you will mostly find people from either the nearby workers, courier service guys or at times some college students.
So go ahead and enjoy.

Malabar Hills, the name itself evokes images of swanky cars, extended living rooms, endless lines of domestics and silver cutlery lying around unattended....!
However with the new lustre laden neighborhoods of Bandra, Juhu and Ville Parle, Malabar Hills has lost lot of its exclusiveness....
The Billionaires and the Bollywood luminaries have now shifted base and more ordinary mortals have moved in.
All in all, MH is still the most exclusive location in Town, but probably not for only the most privileged....
