    Over hyped place!
This place is certainly overhyped as the quality of beach is pathetic to say the least. However the location is one of the best in Mumbai. Shops are average. Too crowded. Do try the ice ka gola which is really famous here

Nice beach to have a walk or spend an evening
Sand, sea and cool breeze, a perfect combination for spending an evening with your friends. It has been good 10 years that I didn't visit this place. Our photography professor Ms. Uma Kadam got us to Girgaum chowpatty to teach some photography lessons. While we were taking pictures, one thought came to my mind. A Mumbaikar's life hangs between his work and home, We are forgetting to live those precious moments. Money, social status, education and family is all that we think of. I hardly recall a person leaving from work and enjoying his time on a beach shore or taking a stroll through heritage places of Mumbai or taking his family to a national park. The only site I recall is a person rushing from his office to catch a local (train), always running to get a seat in the compartment or a spot on the train door. Always engaged on a smartphone or watching movies in a theatre. Why do we run so much? Why do we take things or people around us for granted? Why have we forgotten to live a life? Here I share some pictures, small things in life :) I call them 'Mini windmills' :) Balloons Cotton candy aka Candy foss aka Mahtariche kees (childhood times) A kid playing in the sea along with her father

Chowpatty Beach: A great evening for all ages.
Mumbai-tour is almost incomplete without enjoying an evening in the Chowpatty Beach. It is just amazing to watch the sight of sunsets, while munching some ‘bhel-puris’ or roasted sweet-corn, sitting on the golden sands here. This well-known beach is located at the northern end of Marine Drive in South Mumbai. The nearest railway station for Chowpatty beach is Churchgate station. The beach is most crowded during the evening hours and especially on weekends. Thousands of people come here to enjoy the beauty of the sandy beach with cool atmosphere. This place is for all ages. Although the picturesque beauty is similar like other beaches, the unbeatable courage of the visitors makes the beach atmosphere, like a colorful carnival in the Chowpatty beach. Weather is very fresh, cool and soothing here. Before getting down to the beach, there are rows of food stalls in the left side. You may try some foods from these stalls; best options are like ‘paav-bhaji’, ‘chaats’, ‘batata-puri’, ‘sev-puri’, ‘channa-bhatura’, chowmin/noodles with chili or tomato sauce or chatney, fresh fruit juices (seasonal), ice creams and kulfi etc. Munching some crispy ‘bhel-puri’ or roasted sweet-corn or simply crunchy potato chips and looking at the wonderful sunsets in Chowpatty beach is great relaxing after the whole day city tour in Mumbai. There are also many food hawkers who are also selling ‘pani-puri’, spicy green mango and roasted peanuts etc. on the beach. Coming with family members & especially children and spending several hours here is great relaxing. Some people taking bath in the sea, children enjoying with flying balloons tied with threads & flying like kites in the beach, playing with toys & flutes are very common amusement here. You may also go for jogging, walking on the beach, masticate some crispy bhel-puri or go for some rides, or simply sit on the golden sands & watch the blue sky or watch sun-sets, do yogasanas and children may fly balloons here in the beach. Everything here is like cheerful and fun. There is one more great celebrations in this beach of Mumbai i.e. immersion of idols of 'Lord Ganesha' at the end of 'Ganesh Chathurthi' festival. Chowpatty beach is most popular at the time of this celebration. Nearby places of tourist attraction: 1. Marine Drive 2. Mahalaxmi Temple 3. Nehru centre

Chowpatty beach which is one of the most iconic beach where people from all around the world come to visit has been not kept well.Beach is littering with full of garbage on the beach as well as in the water. The whole strech from mafatlal bath to the end is filled with all kind of garbage from platic to glass bottles which also harms the marine life in the water. Strict penalty should be imposed for littering anywhere not only chowpatty beach. In that way the beach can also be maintained amd we can also maintain the iconic value of the beach amd the beautiful Arabian Ocean. Prime minister Swacch bharat Abhyan should be strictly followed as its always said that Cleanliness is next to Godliness.Appropriate authority BMC should take strict cognizant of this and appropriate action should be taken

My first impression when arrived was the breeze and calm atmosphere. Not a must visit place i would say, but it is rather nice to spend just some of your time to check the other side of Mumbai, you know all the horn, crowd, and traffic.

The best time to visit is in the evening. Less heat and stunning view of sunset plus skyline of Malabar Hills. But don't expect a beautiful beach, it was rather dirty and people swimming in the obviously polluted water was just so unbelievable.

Less crowded and cleaner than Juhu. Surrounded by interesting buildings and restaurants. Great chaat! Soft, white sands and cool breeze....what more do you need? Kihim and Alibaug beaches were a let down, compared to this one.

I visited this beach with my friend in the early to late evening,as I went to Mumbai in August 2015 , to attend a conference in Powai.
The first impression was bad,as the beach area is ill maintained and downright dirty. But finally some photographic opportunities thrown to me and some nice fresh Pav Bhaji lifted our spirits, and we felt better that we had visited this place to have a look.

There is a Shivaji statue at the junction between the car parking space (Rs 60 per car for an hour) and the Huge Ramada Plaza hotel. The beach front starts right then and there, and there are scores of eateries selling varieties of local street food and drinks like faluda ( a kind of ice lolly) and spicy and hot Pav bhaji, vada pav, dosa, other local foods. See my accompanying pictures to get a fair idea of the place and the kind of things to eat or drink.

There is something about a beach.
The sound of the waves crashing,

the touch of sand and the chills of the cold air.
seawater on bare feet is but a generalization of an
experience one can have on a beach. Yet it is amazing how each of these
experiences is unique.

Chowpatty Beach is the best place to enjoy Indian street food. And yes, the food is prepared hygienically here. Just love the malaiwalla gola, Pao Bhaji and Pan. I make sure to go empty stomach coz any how I eat more than expected here. I must recommend chowpatty beach to those who are foodies :)

If you are from outside India, do visit and visit in the late evening. Lot of colour and food on display at hundreds of stalls. Beach is very busy and should tickle your curious mind. Don't eat anything, this is stuff your stomachs were not made for ! For indian tourists, you will enjoy the action but depending on where you are from , you may not like the food. If you are from the north or the east part of india, believe me mumbaikars know nothing of making golgappas(pani puri or puchka if you like) and chaats. However they are good with Bhelpuri and Vada Pav. I love the chuskas or golas (ice sticks with diffferent flavours : my favourites kala khatta and orange) Foreigner's beware : water used for making the ice...suspect. But if you dont taste this, recommend orange for you, you may be missing on an experience...Beach has people selling any kind of wares. But i liked the carts with different berries, raw and pickled and lip smacking stomach spoiling chutneys ! And oh, not to forget.....dont just ask for chowpatty....ask for Juhu Chowpatty...the others are poor fakes.
