- Sandy_JSRJamshedpur, India1,564 contributionsNice Greenery in the Middle of CityThe Hanging Gardens in Mumbai is a terraced gardens situated at Malabar Hill, just opposite to Kamala Nehru Park, the garden is in the middle of the bustling city. Entry is free, as part of city tour, we visited the park in early afternoon. The park has several hedges carved into animal shapes, an attractive flower clock situated in the middle of the garden, different types of plants and flowers. It is a green space spreads over a vast area of land with pathway for moving around the garden. However, in the hot weather, moving around the Garden may be tough due to limited trees / shades. It is a popular spot for the locals as well.Visited August 2020Written July 12, 2021
- igolfCAWilliamsburg, Virginia1,688 contributionsNot what I expectedOur tour guide was quite excited to show us the Hanging Gardens. It was large with paths throughout. The paths we were on were mostly red dirt with small pebbles and didn’t give it a neat, clean look. Many of the beds were bare which may change with the seasons. It was early March when we were there, so I would have thought many things would be planted and blooming (the weather was beautiful). However, that was not the case. We walked around and did see some decent views from one area but found the park in general to be very unexciting. I wouldn’t waste my time to come here if it requires a special trip.Visited March 2020Written April 23, 2020
- gfsc5Perth, Australia1,460 contributionsWater reservoirWe visited the gardens as part of a tour group. Maybe we didn’t see the best of the garden but most of us were a bit underwhelmed. The gardens are built on a reservoir so there isn't much soil which accounts for the lack of trees except around the perimeter. It was quite hot without the shade. There are lots of paths and apparently the gardens are very popular for walking and promenading. To be honest, the gardens across the road looked more interesting.Visited March 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten March 15, 2020

The view of the beach from the garden is worth a visit. The only problem is since it is newly built you cannot step on the grasses anymore and forget about eating like you used to before. . It is best place to visit with family. For children there are many plants which have given the shape of different animals. .There’s also a giant shoe which is known as old lady shoe.Visited December 2018Traveled soloWritten January 21, 2019

In a giant, concrete city like Mumbai it is nice to find a terraced garden that sprawls and also affords views of Mumbai.
As it lies on the slope of the hill may be a reason of it being called the Hanging Gardens. The park was laid out in the early 1880s over Bombay’s main reservoir, some say to cover the water from the potentially contaminating activity of the nearby Parsee site, Towers of Silence.
An interesting feature comprises of its several hedges that have been fashioned into different shapes of animals. There is also a flower clock in the middle of the garden. You can walk round the garden, sit and have light snacks, we purchased some food from a nearby bakery. Just be wary of people selling peacock feathers hounding you.

A lovely tranquil spot in the hustle and bustle that is Mumbai located in the Malabar Hill area.
Built on a water tank / reservoir (hence the "hanging" part of the name) to stop flesh from the Towers Of Silence falling in to the water and polluting it.
The gardens are attractively laid out and even in summer offered a wide splash of colour from the plants. Must be wonderful in monsoon when all the flowers bloom.
Plenty of shady areas to escape the sun and a nice spot to while away some time.
Named after a famous Parsi lawyer I believe.
Just across the road you can gain a wonderful view across Mumbai and the Arabian sea.
Well worth a visit

Is Hanging garden open today? Today is 22 march 2021 Monday.
are there any timings?
juzergandhi
Dubai, United Arab Emirates57 contributions
Yes.
There are timings. And they are very strictly enforced too.
The park is sprawling and mumbai has a bad rep for squatters and Rag Pickers.
To curb the menace, and in fact this park is arguably one of the best maintained parks in mumbai timings are strictly adhered too.
A little before Sunset whistle blowers indicate patrons to start leaving the place and by sunset its closed.
Don't forget to try the pani puri and ragḍa patties outside the park. Yum.
does the car parking available? ticket to be purchased in advance?
