Since we were last here 6 years ago, access to this temple with its significant bull sculpture has been closed to vehicles. As we had been visiting the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple up above, we opted to walk down the 300 steps to this one and, of course, we had to walk back down but it was worth it to see the magnificent sculpture of the bull which has been cleaned up and looks much the better for it. I believe the alternative route involves a climb of 1000 steps so I would recommend driving to the top and doing the 300 step exercise.

Temple closes around 5:30 p.m.
When we visited, the main road to the temple was under construction.
We had to go through 300 steps downhill which took 40 mins by slow walking. Its an open temple without any encloser.

At the foot of Chamundi Hill is the Sri Nandi Temple where the main attractions is a giant sculpture of Nandi. I’m impressed by the scale of the sculpture, but that’s about it. This is something with more meaning for the devotees I think.

Enroute Sri Chamundeshwari Temple on Chamundi Hills, The Big Statue of Nandi Bull, which is approx 15 feet in height and 25 ft long, carved from one piece granite stone is situated. In the Year 1969 the King built 1000 steps to reach the Temple of Sri Chamudeshwari and on 800 th Step on the Hill is Nandi BUll Satute in front of Shiva Temple. While Visiting Temple by vehicle in evening, make sure to visit the Nandi Bull Statue first, cause while returning from Temple late in evening it will be too Dark and risky to visit the Statue as the Hill is a Jungle and Nandi Bull Statue is hardly Visible cause of it's Black Colour.

Beautiful open temple with God Nandi’s sculpture. Visit after Sri Chamundeshwari temple visit as both are located within walking distance.

It's a great pleasure visiting Sri Nandi temple which is sacred and holy place for all worshippers.venue for a family and children .the breathtaking views of surrounding area is very astonishing and enjoyable. Time to pray and meditate on bull of God shiva. Observance of prescribed rules by shastras helps in fulfilling ones wishes. Superb location on height in mysuru. Must visit to enjoy nature and its beauty from height.

Went on a quiet weekday.
Awesome place.
Nice views.
Monolithic structure.
You can climb the hill or reach by car.

We took a Tuk-tuk form the centre of Mysore out to the base of the hill where you can climb the steps (1000) to the Sri Nandi Temple. It is a fair climb as some of the steps are quite high but could be achieved by anybody with reasonable fitness. The steadily improving views over Mysore as we climbed higher made the effort well worth it. There are stunning views over Mysore in general with the horse racecourse in the foreground.
There was certainly a large crowd when we reached the top and luckily we didn't want to look inside the temple as the queues were very large and only open to Hindus anyway. We had a walk around viewing the many stalls selling drinks, food and other things. Be careful of the monkeys particularly if you are carrying a drink or food. Our tuk-tuk's picked us up at the top of the hill for a good ride down stopping at some more lookouts.

The last point of halt was the Bull Temple on the hill. It was dark in the evening. This time, we found that the bull God is no more black. Its colour is like that of granite. We took a round, prayed, took photographs and then headed for Bengaluru from where we had started in the morning. By now, we were exhausted and completely tired.

Amazing site. You have a bird's eye view of the city. The temple itself is well maintained. Sense of worship will automatically be generated.
A must.
