About
Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Great experience zoo experience was too good. All zoo cages or space is not full but you can see some extinct or rare animal and birds. You can opt for battery electric vehicle which is chargeable but the only problem is you can not see all the animals as per your choice. The driver will call you as fast as he can. One african elephant you can see it is too wild so they have chained it. In each and every circle you can find the RO water facility and toilet to freshnup yourself. You need minimum 5 hours of time to see it fully.

Another best and rare reptile you can see Green Anaconda. Selfie sticks are not allowed and please use for your own saftey. One artificial island also you can see.

Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as mysore zoo, was established by the 23rd Maharaja of Mysore Sri Chamarajendra wadiyar bahadur in 1892. Reckoned to be one of the best zoos in Asia, the zoo has become a model for other zoos for its programme of wildlife conservation. Environmental education and exemplary animal welfare measures. Zoo also contributes towards the management of protected forest besides playing an important role in the rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals. Being a tourist friendly destination, the zoo has successfully engaged visitors, making them sensitive and responsible towards wildlife consveration. This monument had been installed to mark the 125th anniversary of the zoo and is dedicated by Hon'ble Chief Minister Sri Siddaramaiah.

One of the most popular tourist attraction in Mysore located close to Mysore Palace.

Parking is available opposite to the zoo at a minimal charge.
Ticket prices varies for weekday and weekend. they also have combo tickets like zoo+lake or just the zoo. Depends what you
prefer. we had bought just the Zoo tickets. They do have Golfcart option in case you want to explore on wheels.
The Zoo is open from 0830am to 0530pm (Tuesday closed).
Its a guides tip to us that zoo visits are to usually done morning hours or like evening. Afternoons
usually animals are inactive and prefer resting. you can find big cats to small cats. Aquatic to terrestrial animals and
birds, primates to reptiles. To name some white tigers, Jaguar, Lions, Elephant, Giraffe, Baboons, Zebra, Bears, Hippo,
Peacock, flamingos and many more.

There are signboards All across the park to guide and for easy accessibility are the directions, Benches, water facility.
Its huge park and requires lot of walking, make sure to wear comfortable footwear.

And another interesting fact about this Zoo is they run an adoption program, wherein the adopter can support financially for the needs of the adopted animal for a year. You can see the name plate of the adopter on the cage or area where the animal is.

Its a lovely Zoo.

ANyone visiting Mysore must make a point to visit this zoo which is not only rich in terms of the wild life but also one of best managed zoos of the country. The organisers have not only given a thought how to make the animals and bird comfortable but they have also given lot of thoughts to make the visitors comfortable and go around the entire zoo through a well laid out route. It takes almost 2-3 hours if you visit all the places and animals. The visitors entering the zoo are taken to a pre decided route where al the animal, birds and reptilians are inhabited in a most natural environment. The Zoo has enough parking space, and charges Rs 80 for the adults and children above 12 years. No eatables are allowed. There are places enroute where eatables are available and guards on duty ensure that people first finish the food items before they proceed further. There are zoo souvenir shop and a shop by Cauveri shop by Karnataka government is there for shopping by the visitors. A shop selling items produced by Mysore Sandal is aldo available. Over all a very good experience and must visit by families as well as indiviuals.

I heard before that Mysore Zoo is one of the best in India and out of curiosity decided to visit this zoo on 1st January along with my wife and her friends. It was a very pleasant experience. The zoo is sprawling and if you can not walk around, there are battery operated carts to take you around. They have a really a wide variety of animals from across the globe. Entry fee is Rs 20/ per head and the seat cost for battery cart is just Rs 80/.
The zoo is a must see place for all the travellers. You will not definitely regret for choosing to visit to Mysore Zoo.

Another great place in the city with kids. You can either walk the 3.5 km length of the zoo which should take you a couple of hours or take the electric buggy 1 hour-long tour. Plan to reach there in the morning to avoid the queue for the buggy and the crowd.

A good place to visit especially when you are with your little one's. Its spread across a large area the tour with electric vehicle takes around an hour which covers the entire zoo and they do allow you to get down and take pictures.
Plan to visit early morning around 9.00 am. Its good to take a walk but if you have kids who cannot walk or senior citizens then the best option is to take the ride by e-vehicle.
If you plan to walk the entire zoo then please wear good footwear
If you wanna walk and see the place it will take around 2 hours and by e-vehicle it should not take more than an hour and post that if you wanna stay and take some walk you can.
The animals are healthy and well taken care of. The zoo authorities runs animal adoption programs if you interested you may enquire about it.
The best part is where you have the birds in open and you enter the place if you are lucky enough like we were the birds come down and sit close near to the walking path.
Dont miss this place when you are in Mysore

What a Zoo this turned out to be. The variety of animals that one may see here is simply unmatched in India. It is really clean, the animals are well taken care off. The enclosures are well maintained and quite large. Avoid going here on a holiday. you need time and a day to really enjoy this. there are golf carts that you can hire to go about the Zoo, but i would recommend walking. lots in informative signage's, a lot of places to get clean drinking water and baby care rooms too. We had our two year old with us, she absolutely enjoyed the outing, we will be back more than ones in the near future

I visited the Zoo and even on Monday morning, there was a good crowd visiting. It is a huge area, but clean and well maintained.

There were a number of animals and birds, and they had plenty of space to move around mostly in natural enclosures.

A lot of walking is involved so those who are elderly or having small children better buy tickets for the buggy service.

There is plenty of trees and shade and resting places if you are tired after walking, and drinking water and toilets are available in short intervals.

The whole atmosphere is calm and serene barring the occasional noises of the animals and birds.

Though there were lions, leopards, bears, rhinoceros etc, the crowning glory was undoubtedly the giraffes which were reserved for the last enclosure before the exit.

I can confidently say this is one of the best zoos in India.

One thing I was disappointed was that I had purchased a combo ticket for the zoo and Karanji lake, but since I forgot the name of the lake and it was also not printed on the ticket, I could not find anybody who understood my queries to help me locate the Lake.

After asking almost 6 staff and security and being made to run here and there and being pointed to places totally unconnected with the Lake, I had to admit defeat and exited the Zoo without visiting the Lake.

Apart from this minor incident caused perhaps because of the fact that I was unable to communicate properly, the whole experience of visiting the Mysore Zoo was a very good and enriching one.

Please don’t miss visiting the Zoo if you are planning to tour Mysore.
