Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as

Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

It's good to see a great deal of wild life. Tips 1. A vehicle carries you inside to every wildlife for Rs.125/- 2. Good attraction especially for kids. My timing: 11:00 - 12:30pm I visited the place after nearby attraction, Karanji lake, which has a small bird sanctuary. That place was more towards the angle of a natural habitat, hence... More

I was reluctant to visit this zoo as I feared seeing majestic animals cooped up in small steel cages but was very satisfied once I had a chance to take a good look around. It costs 50 rupees for an adult, very reasonable, and takes a few hours to walk the huge grounds it occupies. The enclosures and paddocks are... More

Places i wanted to visit were not too far from the hotel... but you would need a vehicle even to travel to the market...not sure if the hotel offers shuttle service..

Very well maintained zoo in India. Good variety of animals and birds. Good initiative to keep this place plastic free. Nearly 4.5 sq km of area. It takes nearly 3 - 3.5 hrs to cover everything. Children definitely enjoy this place.

We went in the Christmas - New Year week along with 2 kids and the crowds were huge!! The zoo is very nice, but the crowd was way too much. We recommend taking the electric buggy vehicle, if you have small children or senior citizens as the zoo is huge and will require serious walking. The buggy queues were poorly... More

Its a must see place for adults and children! It has a variety of animals, birds, reptiles and aquatic creatures including those from other countries. Its pretty large and requires a good amount of walking. Though the zoo is overall clean and well maintained, the toilets are few and not clean.
