My family had the good fortune of booking this bicycle tour of the fascinating island of Srirangapatna. My wife and two teenage children, (14 and 17) were on a whirlwind tour of South India this past winter, and all agreed that our time biking with Stephen around this place of great historical and cultural riches was a highlight. From the auto-rickshaw drivers who picked us up at our Mysore hotel, to the many places and people we encountered, the experience was a fun and fulfilling adventure. Stephen sets you up on comfortable bikes and leads you into intimate settings of everyday life as well as natural areas full of historical and cultural meaning and natural beauty. Stephen, who also runs a guest house, is a dynamic tour guide, who shares his passion and knowledge with great generosity of spirit. You feel like a friend is sharing with you special and loved places, discovered after years of exploration and experience. The overriding feelings at the end of the tour were a feeling of deep satisfaction and exhilaration, and a determination to return as soon possible.

What a great review. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed meeting the whole family and having a great adventure together. As you now realise we’ve created something we really love here, an opportunity to meet interesting people from around the world, to share our love of the country, it’s people and our marvellous Mysore. We look forward to continuing to welcome guests on our MYCycle tour: we have Belgian and Canadian guests tomorrow and at Mysore Bed and Breakfast number one on Trip Adviser for over eight years. Please note we’re only bookable directly and cheaper than claimed on the inaccurate false listings on google. We don’t know why but currently trying to resolve it. It’s not straightforward! 🙂 my best wishes, Stephen

Amazing tour around Srirangapatna, some really interesting history, riding across old train lines and beautiful sugar cane fields. Steven was a great host, he was so friendly and knowledgable and adapted the cycle to suit all of us in the group. What an amazing way to explore a fascinating area and immerse ourselves in culture! Bonus, we had a great lunch by the river after. Thanks so much Steven! A truly fantastic experience.

Thank you for a wonderful review. I really enjoyed our adventure together and thought the group were great travellers interested in finding out about India and how it contrasts with the west. I think the island of Srirangapatnam is fast becoming my favourite place with great scenery, examples of the diverse culture and great historical international connections. I hope to see you all again my very best wishes, Stephen

I joined Stephen for his tour on the island of Srirangaptnam in January 2020. The 5-hour tour was informative and entertaining as we explored history and culture through Stephen's stories. His route is virtually traffic free and easy to cycle. There are plenty of stops to listen to the stories and for refreshments. Unlike some other cycle tours, this one is full of insider knowledge and experience and conversation easily developed - as others have written - as if you were meeting up with an old friend. Stephen got the group working together well (I did some impromptu interpretation for the French-speaking guests) and we thoroughly enjoyed the time together. The trip is well organised with maximum flexibility to have lunch and take in other sights on the island if you wish.

My wife & I were lucky enough to do one of Stephen’s bike tours. His auto rickshaw driver Satish picked us up on time & drove us 45 mins into the country. Satish is a nice guy with great English who answered our many questions on the way. We met Stephen at his bike store in the village. Stephen is warm & friendly, and a font of knowledge. We set off on our bikes around the island and fort with Stephen stopping here & there to give insights on life in the area, history etc. It’s beautiful, very easy cycling, and great fun. The area is full of friendly people so enjoy being waved to & asked your name & where you come from as you cycle through the villages. The fresh coconut was lovely, and the tea was maybe the best we’ve ever had! It’s fun, informative & Stephen is great. Just book it!

When you meet up with an old friend, maybe after one year of absence, maybe after five years, maybe 10, chances are the conversation will pick up right where it left off, some time ago. Seamless. Timeless. Effortless. Those conversations between old friends are that way. There is no difficulty with restarting the long-held warmth, nor is it necessary to raise your defenses to protect yourself from someone that wishes you ill will. Old friends are one of the blessings of life. Steven is an old friend that I just have met. For the first time, but not the last. If your plans allow to spend time with Steven, you will find that he truly likes people, and from there, his tour by bicycle begins. There will be no canned speeches, no delivery that was practiced to a flat consistency, but a delivery that incorporates the here and now. Be prepared to laugh at yourself, laugh (and contemplate) the “Consistent Inconsistency” of the Indian culture, observed by a sharply witted (and ?proper?) Englishman, that has lived in India for 15 or so years. Expect the wry, dry musings that simultaneously cause you to think. Although I have been in India three times, Steven’s insight into the life here, starting with a primer of the history of Mysore, to the modern-day living details of the lives of his neighbors, has given me a new appreciation for the real people here. He will tailor your time with him to fit your desires and abilities. (Thanks again, Steven, for allowing a guy with a brand-new titanium hip replacement to get along just fine). I would not have expected less from a guy from Yorkshire… Alan Jewell
