This small and rather shabby-looking enclosure is an aviary that is home mostly to several species of pheasants, from local ones like red jungle fowl, kaleej pheasant and peafowl to others, such as guinea fowl. The birds wander about across a series of wide steps, with scattered grain, some flowing water, a few bushes and trees around. It’s not very clean, and though individual birds are not caged (the only birds we saw in a small cage were a couple of very sad-looking parrots, single specimens of two different species), it’s not terribly inspiring.

Ticket prices are Rs 20 per adult, Rs 10 per child.

My version of the Lonely Planet guide describes the bird park as 'drab', but that's really not doing it justice in terms of how terrible it is. The faded, moth eaten stuffed animals after the entrance are just laughable and the small collection of a couple of peacocks and some wild fowl are really not exciting. But for some reason, we did actually enjoy the place. Maybe it was so awful that it was good! Just like all those dioramas that appear in attractions in India, there is something that draws you in like a rabbit in headlights.

Anyway, it's opposite the Viceregal lodge and costs Rs 5, so what can you lose?

The aviary houses two peacocks and some other birds.
They could expand it and house some more birds
especially himalayan birds
though its a nice place and worth a visit

It is located approx 1.5 km from Shimla Railway Station and 2.5 km from Shimla Old Bus Stand, Himalayan Bird Park is also known as Himalayan Aviary. Only some peacock and hens like regular bird were there. the cages were in a pathetic conditions. This so called bird park is in very congested area.
Timings: 10 am to 5 pm on all days except Monday
Not worth to visit.

It's really a small place. Don't expect much. You will enter from one side and exit from other in 5-10 mins, watching few birds. Only if you are free and having ample free time then only go there.

This is a small aviary, basically a relatively small enclosure for birds and also with limited number or type of birds.

A good initiative, pretty inexpensive; however takes just 3 to 4 minutes to cover the whole area.

They should improve the same so as to attract visitors. Increase price but make it a better place. Shifting to a new location could be another option as no real expansion is possible at present venue.

The Himalayan Aviary or the Himalayan Bird Park is located opposite the Viceregal Lodge, at a height of over 2000 meters.Sight the rarest of the avian species in the picturesque environs of Shimla at Himalayan Bird Park.Opposite the Viceregal Lodge's gate, the Himalayan Bird Park is a little aviary that's home to a small collection of exotic birdlife.
