- MS1900Bracknell, United Kingdom286 contributionsGreta sightWe visited the Temple this week and it was a great experience. The life size statue of Hanuman and the little temple are obviously great and worth the experience. We walked all the way to the doorway office but we’re told it wasn’t working and due maintainence which was a great disappointment - their website didn’t state anything of the sort on the day and really unprofessional of the officials to not update the status of the ripe way there to save everyone time and effort. We ended up taking our own car there and it’s a 30mins drive from main Shimla, thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommend the site.Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 22, 2022

- macmill240 contributionsTemple is ok best bit is the cable car rideFor the best views of shimla take the sky rope/cable car to the temple as the views of shimla are stunning. The views from the top are restricted because of the trees. The temple itself is quite small but interesting the large monkey statue Is impressive, watch out for the monkeys up here thought they can get quite aggressive . worth a visit for the views though.Visited March 2023Written March 4, 2023
- Jayakar BHATMangalore, India542 contributionsA Visit to Jakhi TempleAs a part of Nirmala Travels Mangalore in Shimla Tour we a group of 40 persons reached Shimla, at three PM. Since we all were tired of journey from a long distance by bus, our manager said we can take rest today. But we had a idea to travel by toy train. But timings are not suited to us. Hence We decided to visit Jakhu Temple. From Our Hotel Temple is about 3 kilo meters far. We all reached the spot, then we came to know that either we opt for cable car or motor car. This cable car service is provided by Private carrier. Timings are upto 6 PM in the evenings only. As we reached the spot, lot of motor car operators are offering one way for Rs. 50.00. Since its a steep hill we thought of opting for cable ca for enjoying the view. They charged us Rs. 250.00 per head for one way, which is quite expensive, but still we opted it. Temple is serene, but monkeys troubled us a lot. My Spectacles was snatched away by one of the monkeys. There is a huge Statue of Lord Hanuman. We sat there for a hour and came down by Maruti Omni just for Rs. 50.00Visited September 2022Written April 6, 2023
- DandydeesUnited Kingdom81 contributionsWorth a visitThe temple itself we didn’t go into but we walked up to the summit and enjoyed the view and the huge statue. Do not wear glasses, the monkeys will steal them. A young lad had his nicked and got a face scratch in the process. Quite a steep walk but covered and you can go at your own pace.Visited May 2023Written May 6, 2023
- dianedinkyDunfermline, United Kingdom734 contributionsNot much to pass the time thereYou can see the monkey statue on the hill from all over Shimla so certainly worth a visit to go up there. The temple is in a beautiful setting and you can go inside and get a blessing but there is not much else to see or do between cable cars other than sit and contemplate or take a very short walk around. There is a small stall up there but nothing to really buy. The statue is, of course, for the monkey god but I only saw one actual monkey here, it is not running wild with them like the town itself. So if you want to get away from the monkeys...go to the monkey temple!Visited November 2022Written June 7, 2023

This is the highest point in shimla and the statue of lord hanumanji is visible from almost any part of the city. Beware of monkeys here and take care of your bags. Very lovely place and the best part is it also has a ropeway. We walked from the Ridge near the mall and up to the statue. You can either take stairs or walk beside them on good paved shang out to look at the giant.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 19, 2023

The place can be accessed by using car or using the cable car, both which you will have to access from Mall Road. The car ride is cheaper overall, compared to the cable car. But you will have to walk up quite a distance to access both. We went by car and returned by Cable Car, to get the best of both worlds. Be sure to bargain for the car ride, the cable car on the other hand is fixed price. The car ride up was very fun and thrilling. When at the temple, you will be welcomed by a gang of monkeys looking to snatch away anything they can from you. Be sure to keep spectables/sungalsses/caps/purse/anything thats on your person, as safe as possible. If possible keep all those in your bag and carry your bag on your front. From the base of the temple, its a short walk up to the Hanuman statue. There are even more monkeys around the statue. If the monkeys do snatch away anything, be fast to contact any person working there, they usually have nuts with them, for a price of Rs 20 pack, they throw the pack to the monkeys and the monkeys throw back your item (seems like a setup to me though to con the tourists, but who knows). On the way down, ask for directions to the cable car. During winter, if it has snowed, the path to the cable car may be a bit tricky, as it may be slippery. The cable car ride is very short, and although it offers great views of shimla town, the prices seemed pretty steep.
Either way, I wouldn't recommend this unless you wanted to get some thrill out of your trip to mall road.

A sacred temple and a must visit place in Shimla. The huge statue of Hanuman Ji is even visible from down the valley. We went there for evening aarti. Lots of monkeys there so be careful and do not trouble them. You need to climb some stairs for about 10 mins from the car park area. Hanuman Chalisa is written on the roof of the stairway so you can read it while climbing the stairs.

Its on the highest point in Shimla with a huge Hanuman statue next to the main temple. There is a narrow road through which we can either take a 15 minute hike which can be tiring for some or pay around Rs 300 for cabs to go uphill. Bigger cars may not be able to go up the hill through this narrow road. There is also a few cafes on top with good food

The Jakhu Temple is the temple for Lord Hanuman. As the temple is situated on top of Jakhu Hill so is the name. The vehicles ply upto the temple stairs. From there you have to climb some stairs, not stiff to reach an open are, where a big statue of Lord Hanuman is there. Be careful about monkeys, then can even take your foot wares along with them sometimes to the top of the tree. The temple of Hanuman is smaller one than that of Statue.Prasad is available near the temple,no need to carry them from below. You can reach to the temple by walking the stiff hill,by hiring a cab or by cable car which is very expensive.

A very peaceful temple on top of the mountain. The road to the temple is very well built, neat and clean surroundings, a beautiful view of the snow clad mountains from the temple, all these things makes the temple a very beautiful place. Do try coming down to the christ church through the jakhu temple ropeway, it gives a beautiful view of shimla. However, the cost was a wee bit high of Rs.295/- per person, but if you are ok with the budget then go ahead for it.
P.S. - Beware of the monkeys, keep your stuff close to yourself. Never know what will be snatched from you😝

Thanking other reviewers who take out time to write a helpful review for other tourists. And here goes my review-
I visited Jakhu temple today(13/09/21) and we took the ropeway to reach the temple. You can take the cab from Mall road(behind the shimla church), or hike to hill top or take the Ropeway(cable car) to reach the temple. The view from top and from the cable car is very beautiful. You can see how beautiful Shimla looks from there.
The Ropeway takes around 6 mins and we paid 550 per person(roundtrip, one way trips are also available). The ropeway tower is behind the Shimla Church and it takes around 10-15 mins to reach to the tower.
How to reach Shimla church- You can park your vehicle at the start of the mall road(you’ll see many cars parked there inside the yellow line), then just walk straight up for around a kilometre(vehicles are not allowed on mall road). You’ll see Church on your left.

Local people traditionally visit Jakhoo in winter. It is the highest point in Shimla hills so most likely to have snowfall. People who like to see or play in snow go there in Jan-Feb. The walk up is steep but should be easy. Monkeys is a permanent problem in and around the temple, has always been since i was a child but who can argue with faith.

you have to go behind the church on the ridge and take a level walk for about 15 min and then the rope way takes you to the top. iew is good from the ropeway though it is quite expensive especially if you are traveling with a whole family. A taxi may be cheaper. the cheapest is a state transport bus which runs between the ridge and Jakhoo. the most pleasant way of course if to trek. especially if there is a little snow but be careful of slipping in the road.
