Address
Neighborhood: Nizamuddin
Another popular upmarket residential neighbourhood of Delhi with many small parks and home to expats, Nizamuddin is most famous for the Sufi shrine, Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah. It’s a beautiful confluence of faith, heritage and contemporary Delhi. The busy streets leading to the dargah offer a rich cultural and culinary taste of Delhi, especially on Thursday evenings when the area comes alive with soulful Sufi music and qawwalis at the shrine. As you walk along the colourful street markets selling flowers and knick-knacks, the road ahead further leads to the majestic Humayun’s Tomb, a significant historical landmark and one of Delhi’s best attractions.

The famous Sufi Saint Nizamuddin Aulia on whose name this area is known lived at this place for 65 years till his demise. Today Dargah of Nizamuddin, a few kilometers away from this place is visited by thousands of people for prayers while the place is hardly known to general public.
Khanqah is a small monastery used for praying. For 65 years the saint lived, meditated, interacted with his followers here and died here. Chillah is the place where the saint secludes himself for 40 days from public and followers and does intense penance without food, water or sleep. One portion of the structure has his living quarters where he lived and worshiped God. Adjacent to the building is a graveyard. In the front portion of the building is the grave of its builder Ziauddin Waqil who built it for the saint even when he was told that he might not survive the completion of this structure. He reportedly died the same day when the structure got completed. A quiet, peaceful place not visited by general public but extremely soothing.

The day you are done with your ego trip, come to KhwajaSaab's chilla where he has stayed and taught his disciples. Cleanse your soul, kiss the doorstep of this Sufi khanqah.
