My god! this place

there was not a soul on the station. no chaiwala, no loo, no paan beedi cigarette not even a matchstick and not even a fly flew. its as good as dead. one train stops here once a week. apart form that i wonder if it ever lives another day in the week.
my cab guy had never heard of this place. thank god for google maps!
please go prepared. you wont get anything here.. no atm, no water, its terrible.

Boarding the Palace on Wheels

Excellent service from this unasuming railway station in South Delhi as we boarded the Palace on Wheels luxury train for our week long tour of Rajasthan

A very special railway station in South Delhi!

This small railway station is not at all very well known even among Delhi's locals! Nevertheless, "Safdarjung Station" is very special and important for tourists visiting India! From here, on every Wednesday afternoon, from September to April, every year, departs the fabulous "Palace on Wheels"! Voted as Nr. 4 Luxury Train in the world, "Palace on Wheels", in its 7 nights and 8 days tours, will unveil you the secrets and wonders of India's Rajasthan! From maharaja's palaces, historical forts and museums to wildlife sanctuaries! The train departs "Safdarjung Station" at 4:30 PM every Wednesday, so do arrive a little before departure time and enjoy the party atmosphere, with musicians and a royal welcoming reception by "Palace on Wheels" staff: turbans (for the gentlemen), scarves (for the ladies) and flower necklaces (for everyone). For a moment, enjoy the special feeling of being like a maharaja or a maharani at the old Raj times. Taxis are available to take you back to your hotel upon arrival on the next Wednesday morning (train check-out at 7:15AM). Enjoy!

Oh, This is in Delhi

I don’t know how many in Delhi are aware of the existence or of the whereabouts of this railway station, yes it is in Delhi but it is very unlike other Delhi stations. In addition to EMUs there are just a few trains that stop at this station but as these trains do not stop at any other station in Delhi it is important to know the limitations of this station. This is a small station and except for mandatory toilet/water /shade etc there are no other facilities for passengers. No shop for food or water, no cloakroom or waiting room etc, the only food available at this station is outside the station building and that is CHANA-MURMURA only. Getting an auto rickshaw may be a difficult task at odd hours.
