Library of Humayun
Dec 2019
The Sher Mandal is thought to have been the personal library and observatory for the Mughal Emperor Humayun. It’s a cute looking double storeyed and octagonal building topped with an Islamic dome. I visited late in the day and the setting sun reflected beautifully off the red sandstone. Sadly it’s not possible to climb up to the second storey.

A pretty, interesting building and one of the most intact structures inside the Purana Qila complex.

Sher Mandal is situated within the Old Fort Complex. Later it was converted into Library and Observatory by Humayun. This was also the spot where on 24th January 1554 Humayun fell from the second floor to his death.

Sher Mandal is located in the middle of the Old fort complex. This was constructed in the memory of Sher Shah. This is a historical monument. It is said Humayun completed the constructed of the mandal. Many people come to visit this place.

Literally the site of the downfall of Humayun
Nov 2017 • Couples
If you've been to see Humayun's tomb and feel you need to know more about the man, then a visit to the old fort of Purana Qila is an interesting trip because it's home to the small library - the Sher Mandal - where the poor old chap fell down the steps and had the accident that led to his death.

You'll need to go to Purana Qila to see it.

Small but interesting
Dec 2015
The Sher Mandal named for Farid (sher shah) who had tried to finish what was ordered by Babur but had died during the initial phase and so construction was halted until the arrival of Humayun.

This double-storeyed octagonal tower of red sandstone with steep stairs leading up to the roof was intended to be higher than its existing height.
Inside there are remnants of the decorative plaster-work and traces of stone-shelving where, presumably, the emperor's books were placed.

Small but Very Interesting
Mar 2016 • Solo
Inside the old fort complex.
Again, no signs to describe what you are visiting so it's easy to pass by, but as previous reviewers have mentioned, it's historically significant.
