We were taken to this shop on the pretext that it was a shopping centre open on a Sunday when everything else was closed. They are not run by the Indian government even though they assured me they were. They are overpriced and you will find the same items at much much better prices elsewhere. I did buy some lose stones which I'm sure I paid too much for and they also asked for a copy of ID. Don't give it to them.

So I've been to this shop on 3 different trips to Delhi. This place is not bad depending on what you're looking for. Here is my advice:
1. This place is good for textile items. (Price and quality) they have silk PJs and robes ready made most places don't. If you get a tailored suit get it here over Delhi Haat.
2. Figures & statues (top floor) is overpriced go to paharganj market and the block. If it's the sandlewood ones you want goto the government cottage to know you get the real thing.
3. Rugs. Negotiate hard and walk out if you must.
4. Shop around if you can.

We were taken here by our "private guide" on our first day in India. I didn't want to be shopping but they stop the car and take you out as if you are going to the next site on the tour. My jet lag had my guard down and we bought a small antique kilim carpet. The shopowner PROMISED to wash it before shipping it to US. When it arrived back in US, the carpet was filthy. Red dirt/dust still saturating it. I had to take it to professional carpet cleaner. To add insult to injury after currency conversion, it ended up costing about 20% more than we thought.
I have emailed the store 3 times and there is no response. It may sound like a government sponsored shop but they are ripoff artists.

Do not do business here! Custom clothes will not be custom.
I spent over an hour picking out fabrics, being measures, and was promised a custom suite that would fit me perfectly. I also showed pictures of what I wanted.
I paid in the store and was told I'd have the items delivered. I specified that I will be trying them on to make sure they fit.
The "custom" clothing that I was provided was 2 sizes too big, missing features I wanted, and they added features I did not want. The tailor tried re-measuring me without any tape measure and said he would adjust quickly. The items were then provided to me again- still too big, still missing features, still unwearable. He wanted to try again, but at this point I realized there was no hope.
I gave the items back to him but have not received any refund and without return paperwork a credit card company cannot dispute this.
I'm out the money and there is nothing that can be done other than warn others to stay far away. So, please do not shop there.

We bought a marble Ganesh statue and had it shipped to us. It arrived broken in several places. I’ve tried to contact them several times with no response from the store. We’re very disappointed considering how much money we spent in this shop. Very poor customer service. All we want is a replacement statue to be sent or a refund.

Last September (2013), I enjoyed a two-week visit to India where I grew up during the 1950s. I brought my two oldest children for a visit in 1980 and this time, I brought my youngest daughter to share with her the land of my youth. I am almost 70 years of age and this was the trip of my lifetime back to the country I love. I had worked 2 jobs for almost 2 years to save up for the trip.
On our first day in New Delhi, an individual at our hotel in Connaught Place arranged for a driver to take us to Central Craft Cottage Industries (CCCI) on Punchkulan Road, not to be confused with Central Cottage Industries on Janpath Road, a reputable emporium of long standing. CCCI is managed by Ankit Gupta (gupta.cccidelhi@gmail.com).
Our visit to CCCI turned out to be an ugly nightmare – I was the victim of multiple and incredibly excessive fraudulent charges for items I did not even purchase.
Now, 5 months later, I am still trying to clear my American Express card. AmEx has opened a second round of investigations. In response to requests for itemized receipts to support their charge card receipts that only showed total amounts, CCCI sent 2 completely different sets of itemized receipts, 1 set to Am Ex and 1 set to me. Some have obviously been altered. All are falsified.
I filed a claim with the Regional Director (North), Government of India Regional Tourist Office whose responsibilities include investigating vendors who commit fraud against foreign tourists.
S.R. Chowdhury, Assistant Director, India Tourism, Govt. of India, 88 Janpath, New Delhi 110 001 (goitodelhi@nic.in) twice forwarded my claim to Mr. Gupta at CCCI who failed to answer the demand for an immediate explanation.
Pranav Prashant, Tourist Information Officer (Complaints) at India Tourism, recently forwarded my claim to a New Delhi Police Department (sho-mandirmarg-dl@nic.in), requesting that they take appropriate action against CCCI.
In India, as in the United States, fraud is a crime. CCCI fraudulently helped themselves to over $1,000 (US) from me. I am still waiting for a resolution to their despicable, dishonest business practices. M. Kay Heitkamp, California

Good prices. You are approached with the usual high pressure Indian style, but they had some nice products. I took a chance and bought a gorgeous carpet without my wife even in the country. She couldn't tell by the photo I sent to her, but I bought it. It arrived in perfect shape and she LOVED it. Is it genuine? Who knows? Who cares? In India maybe it was made by his grandmother working on her knees for 18 years, or maybe not. You like it, you buy it. They had many great products here==also bought a set of black Star of India which were pretty cheap. Our jeweler we trust here at home said it was genuine, sterling silver and well mounted pieces. No duty on arrival as he valued the rug at $400. Those guys are clever!

A pleasant surprise in the middle of a busy city. That's the best way to describe this shop with amazing bronze and wooden statues and brilliant clothes made from the finest materials. This place is important for me and my wife because we saw the biggest and most beautiful Star of India precious stone with a perfect four arm star shining brightly on it. An amazing experience 👍

Mr Gupta pressure sold me fake opals at an exhorbitant price. I am in the process of negotiating a 75% refund with assistance from Amex. He hung up on me ringing India from Australia. Our small group was brought to this shop by a driver. We did not want to be there and I was suffering a fever at the time. I feel a fool for being scammed but their unscrupulous actions need to be reported as widely as possible in all forms of media. DO NOT purchase from this fraudulent merchant.

While traveling India we were short on time for finding special gifts for the home. I had been told that Cottage Industries was an excellent place to find unique handicrafts and had forgotten that there were two stores, one government run and another private. Our driver brought us to the Central Craft Cottage Industries and it was an absolute delight. It is a multi-level store of everything you could hope for. We started out in the rug department, which was ideal because I had been looking for the perfect rug for my living room for years and did not expect to have time to visit multiple locations in hope of finding the one. I showed the staff a photo of my room and no kidding; they pulled out the most incredible rug that could not have been more perfect for my room, it was if it had been made special for me. Super soft wool from Kashmir and great value for the quality…I was ecstatic. Moving up the levels, I was amazed at the offerings from stones, jewelry, fabrics, pure pashmina scarfs, and one of a kind piece that you would pay a fortune for at home. With the silks, they make pajamas and robes that come in silk pouches which are perfect gifts that are super easy to pack. I ended up with some incredible Himalayan singing bowls, and a number of brass sculptures while my uncle piled up treasures of his own. What made the experience perfect is that they packed and shipped everything that we picked out so there was no worry about how to carry it all around with us. The transaction was super smooth. Upon arriving home, we both wished we had bought more and contacted Gupta via email where my uncle ordered 5 more (beautiful) rugs and I purchased a few more brass pieces after Gupta sent us photos and spreadsheets of the choices. I simply wire transferred the money and upon receipt, I had a tracking number. Everything arrived in pristine condition as they had stitched cotton bags for the rugs and built a crate for the handicrafts that were packaged outrageously well.
I should add that upon our return to New Delhi after visiting Agra, we did make a trip to the government run Cottage Industries and they did have amazing handicrafts as well and I did purchase some paintings that I could carry home in my bag. In inquiring about shipping there, it seemed to be quite an ordeal and each department operates separately. If/when I return again, I would definitely visit Central Craft Cottage Industries over the government store due to the fact that you receive personal attention in finding the perfect piece. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and I enjoyed their hospitality and greatly appreciated how easy it was to ship items home. Gupta took very good care of us and was always available on the other end of an email to answer questions and ensure me that the items would arrive. I highly recommend this store for your special shopping destination. I am sorry that a few people reported bad experiences and I have to say, reading them left a little fear in me that my items might not arrive but I can attest that by transactions were honest and seamless and I feel 100% comfortable purchasing from them in the future. I’m happy to answer any questions if you are looking for special handicrafts such as rugs from India…
