One of the oldest Roman Catholic Church in Delhi, it is located very near to Connaught Place. The architecture is beautiful, the premises are neat and clean. You will feel calmness and positive vibes here once you visit.

One of very few Catholic churches in India but a beautiful example of blending local colours into a typical, if smallish, Cathedral. Built in 1935 of local stone. Had to view it in a rush, which is the curse of bus trips ! Was quiet & calm compared to outside the gates !

Sacred Heart is Delhi's largest Catholic church and one of the oldest churches in the city. Franciscan Father Luke took the initiative to build the church and construction started in 1929. It was designed by a British architect and based on Italian design. Not pretentious by any means, but beautiful in its simplicity. The red and cream-colored exterior is striking with its façade of pillars and matching towers rising above the roof. The interior has a towering curved ceiling and beautiful arches. Behind the marble altar is a large fresco depicting the Last Supper. I was surprised to find a relic of Saint John Paul II here. The Cathedral, along with two schools, sits among 14 acres of landscaped gardens. I visited during Eucharistic adoration, a special time of prayer and reflection.

Sacred Heart Cathedral is located in Connaught Place easily accessible through Rajiv Chowk Metro/Patel Chowk. It's mostly crowded by devotees on Sunday.

I went to visit the Sacred Heart Cathedral and I was surprised to find out that this church has many Masses on Sundays. I arrived at before 3 PM and learned that there would be a Mass at 4:30 PM in the native language and that there would be an English Mass at 6:30 PM. They already had 3 Masses in the morning. During the Mass, I found the community very vibrant in singing hymns. One can see the devotion of the people in the faith. The priest was very friendly and gave the Sacrament of Reconciliation upon request even before the start of the Mass. He was really helpful and accommodating and one can see his pastoral caring attitude. I had the opportunity to attend the celebrations of the Feast of the Sacred Heart last Sept. 29, 2019. There was a sung Mass with the Archbishop Emeritus and many priests within the Archdiocese. The Mass was followed by a procession of the statue of the Sacred Heart on the streets of New Delhi. The procession ended at the hall of the Convent of Jesus and Mary where the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was held. Afterwards, there was lunch for the members of the community. Although Catholicism is a minor religion in India, the Catholic natives are devout and loyal to the faith. Worth mentioning is the tradition of removing shoes before entering the church by the priests and by the people. This showed their great reverence for the Blessed Sacrament and that the altar is a holy place. There are also statues of saints inside the church. Picture taking is not allowed inside the church. Outside the church there is the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. Many people offer flowers to Our Lady. This is their way of showing their love and honor to the Mother of God. There is a big statue of St. John Paul II. A tour of New Delhi will not be complete without visiting this beautiful church. I highly recommend it to every traveller, Catholic and non-Catholic.

The Sacred Heart Cathedral is located in between St. Columba's School and CJM, both famous schools of New Delhi. The visit to the Cathedral brought back old memories and it was really a memorable experience.
