Lal Gumbad

The name indicates it to be a red coloured tomb but looks like mire of blackish color. The structure of this tomb is still in good condition despite the fact that it was built in late 13th century, but the same cannot be said about adjacent structures.

Sufi Saint kabir ud din Aulia tomb
May 2018 • Solo
Lal Gumbad is located on Dayanand Marg, Malviya Magar, Delhi. It was built to honour Sufi saint Sheikh Kabir ud din Aulia, disciple of Chirag -I- dilli. The whole structure is a masterpiece of architecture. It houses tombs of many sufi saints/ followers. There is another structure adjacent to it and some tombs were constructed outside these two monuments. He taught Hindus and Muslims to live peacefully and harmoniously.ASI has taken steps to conserve the park and the monuments.

Looks More A Mini Fortress Than A Tomb!
Mar 2015 • Solo
The Lal Gumbad in Malviyanagar with its sloping red stone walls with squarish box like appearance looks more like a mini fortress than a Tomb of a saint! This is not the only contradiction as the dome looks more black than red as the name implies! It was built in 1397 on the grave of the Sufi saint Kabiruddin Auliya which again appears a contradiction as the Sufis are well known for their piety & love for simplicity never built tombs on their graves & nothing as grand as this edifice of marble & red sandstone with lotus bud motifs on the arches, marble & jaali screens which must have cost a lot of time & money in those days.

As you enter the enclosure you see & feel feel only the hushed silence in the dark chamber with a large number of graves of people who might have the power then & willed to be buried next to the saint`s grave. The Tomb is said to have been stripped off its finery & parts are in ruins.

Tomb of Shaikh Kabir-ud-din Aulia, built in about 1397 AD.
Dec 2014 • Solo
Lal Gumbad is a tomb developed for Sufi saint Kabir-ud-din Aulia, a disciple of Chirag-i-Dilli and built in about 1397 AD. This is located on the main Maharshi Dayanand Marge in Malviya Nagar. Presently the tomb is intact but the nearby structures have crumbled. This is presently located in a walled enclosure with parks where children play cricket and the main tomb is locked and is said to be opened on Thursdays.
Overall it is a beautiful monument to a saint who worked for harmony between Hindus and Muslims and is revered by general population of the time.
