Built during the reign of the last Tughlaq Sultan, Mahmud Shah, this idgah (a special mosque built for Eid namaaz) is just next door to the rather more popular Chor Minar. The idgah was built in the first decade of the 15th century by a man named titled Mallu Shah (aka Iqbal Khan), a very powerful nobleman who was pretty much the de facto Sultan during Mahmud Shah’s reign. The idgah is a large, impressive structure, basically an imposing wall mosque with a row of eleven large mihrabs or closed arches down its length. It sits in a garden surrounded by tall trees.

The enclosure was unlocked when we visited, and there was no guard or caretaker around. No fees are charged.

Having lived in the area for more than 20 years, I did not hear of it till I went to Chor Minar sometime ago. While returning I noticed this structure and thought of spending sometime there. The descriptive stone could not be read in full but the surroundings of the structure were nice. Come to think of it that this was constructed more than 600 years ago and has survived without much care in terms of protection make me give it very good rating. If you are in Delhi for a few days, forget about it as you would find it difficult to locate but if you have longer time and you are a historical buff one can spend sometime here and would find it worthwhile.

Idgah is a monument built in the mughal era & has great historical significance. The structures are very old & needs some maintenance.
