Top ways to experience South Extension Market and nearby attractions

The area

Neighborhood: South Extension/Lajpat Nagar
A residential neighbourhood more popular for its shopping extravaganza at display, South Ex (as known popularly) with Lajpat Nagar joining the party within a few minutes is where the local families of Delhi shop. A hot favourite with wedding shoppers, the busy South Ex market sprinkled with cafes, restaurants and bars, is home to the best of Indian shopping suiting every style and trend, while Lajpat Nagar is a great example of a typical Indian bazaar, with a mix of roadside stalls & shops selling artwork, crockery to clothing, shoes & accessories, food kiosks (try the Tibetan momo) and mehendi sellers, applying delicate henna designs on outstretched palms. The markets remain closed on Mondays but are crowded to the hilt on other days, luring crowds with its amazing bargains.

One of the posh markets in South Delhi, South Extension is situated on the Ring Road, near Lajpat Nagar on east and AIIMS on west side. Commonly called as South Ex, it is divided into two parts - Part I and Part II. It is closed on Mondays, while Sunday is the busiest day. The market is famous for Jewellery showrooms, Suiting and Shirting, Sarees, women dress material, groom and bridal wears, shoes, etc. Many food chains and restaurants are there to cater all tastes. We were there in TanishQ showroom in Part-1 to purchase Gold jewellery. We also went to Nalli for Kanjivaram sarees. These showrooms have better collection and variety in bigger area as compared to their other branches in Delhi.

South Extension market is one of the upscale markets after CP. Its not as big, at the same time its not as crowded as CP or Karol Bagh. There are limited but good shops for apparels, jewelry etc. and restaurants. Number of banks as well have their branch here. There are two parts to it South Ex 1 & the South Ex 2 market, these used to be well connected via a subway, however recently the subway is closed due to Metro construction and the place has become slightly difficult to navigate. Once the metro work is complete the market will be more popular due to additional mode of connectivity. The market enjoys good crowds in the evenings specially on weekends and remains closed on Mondays.

So, not a market as I know one, more a collection of shops. The variety of good available gave a good choice, especially the scarves and pashmina stores. There is a lot of building and road works in the area which made the environment very dusty and the walk between shops rather spread out. All in all an ok place to spend an hour or so browsing.

As I stay at south ex, the south extension part 2 market is one of my favourites.

It has all! All branded showrooms to bakery to clubs and resto bars etc.

One can never get bored of this place.

This is a good hangout and shopping destination in South Delhi. Wide range of shops for apparels including ethnic wear is available. Also good for jewellery and footwears. Some fine restaurants too are present here.

This market sells all products on high price because this is located in posh area, well garments are bit good quality,it better to avoid shop for purchasing, the street shopkeepers sell on reasonable price but you have to bargain a lot it's irritating and confusing, its better to avoid this market. If you are looking for branded clothing or shoes then its okay..Auto rickshaw can ask any amount to take there, the best way to reach there is metro train, station is INA.
Tips- If you visit Delhi as a tourist then waste of time, so its better to avoid this market.

This is the best place for those who like shopping. You can find numerous brands as well as local outlets. You can also find places to hang out with friends and family. If you visit here with your car then please find professional parking otherwise your car either gets scratched or towed by the Delhi police.

The South Ex market as its better known as seems to have lost its charm. Its quite a parking nightmare, trying to get in and out can be a daunting affair. Plus hard to get from one end to another (across the main road). Best to avoid, unless there is a particular brand / shop you are looking for.

This market is shoppers heaven. All good brands showrooms are available at this market. Always remain crowded and parking is great problem. Many showrooms for jewelry, saris, western wear, shoes etc are available. You will also find many good restaurant and many fast food outlets at this place. Good place for spending quality time at this place. In evening this place becomes hub of all shopping activities. Shopping at this place is Suitable for rich people.
